Magic left ajar.

The World Next Door is coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
Through all her teenage life, Jun identified more with the "monster" people of Emrys than the human world. Finally, she gets to cross over to hang out with her beastie bestie Liza and her enchanting gang of misfits. Naturally, as the group is fooling around with magic, Jun gets trapped and now they all must figure out a way of getting her back to our world before it's too late. Mastering the art of matching runes and interacting with the locals seems to be the ticket.
This... I'm not sure what this wants to be.

Undertale?

EDIT:
Also "VIZ Media" as in the manga publisher? They do games now? Why generic Western indie titles and not Japanese stuff?

This looks awful.
I have no idea what this is supposed to be, but the cutesy anime-ish/visual novel aesthetic is definately not for me.

Tell the World to turn down the radio. I'm trying to listen to a podcast here.

SeduceMePlz: This looks awful.
It probably looks pretty good, if you're among their intended target audience -- Which seems to be teenage girls?
I... can't really understand what kind of game this is trying to be. From the trailer and screenshots, I assume it's a mix of puzzle with platformer and adventure?

The art style is really putting me off, too. And for all those old farts in these forums who hate everything Japanese, trust me, this looks bad even for those of us who do like the manga and animé style of drawing. It looks like a cheaply produced early '90s eurojank cartoon trying to pass off as animé, thinking kids wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Maybe there's some niche market of nostalgia for that crap? I assume so, there's nostalgia for the most awful things, out there.

I generally don't come into release threads to complain about a game, unless I know that game has issues or is broken, in which case I think it's fair to warn potential customers, but in this case I'm genuinely trying to figure out what makes this game special or something someone would want to play.

[EDIT] It seems Rose City Games, the devs of this game, helped with Hiveswap, by What Pumpkin Games, based on the (very cringy and aimed at edgelords) Homestuck universe, "[coordinating] Hiveswap's release strategy, including creating a launch trailer, managing review key distribution, market research, press and streamer outreach, and PR consulting". Assuming they, indeed, did the market research for that game and are using the same results for their own developed title, I don't see it being something most kinds of GOG customers (all the different ones there are) would be interested in getting.

It could do less candy crush stuff, but it's not that bad. Visuals are pleasing and gameplay seems - well narrative - like.
*shrug* Does not look my type of game but I don't see anything wrong with the art style. I prefer that over the typical manga Visual Novel art style. Has more of a Franco-Belgian flair to it.
This definitely looks like it had some effort put into it, and while I may still technically be young enough to be part of this game's target audience, my head is just in my hands right now.

Though I'm sure this was not the dev team's intent, there's something weirdly generic about the way this game looks. It's hard for me to explain. It might be the aggressive use of neon pastel colors and hot-topicy looking characters (including one who looks sort of like an edgelord version of Sans). And because of all this, it must really think it stands out. It's trying so hard to have a cast of special snowflakes - but it fails to realize that you can just go onto tumblr and you'll see this kind of ridiculous character designs all over the place.

It's really not too different from the 90s craze for edgy musclemen with guns, swords and gritty names. Something people will look back upon in 10 years and think "god that was all so stupid". I really don't feel like saying anything more.

I'm sorry if I started something of a Mexican wave of negativity here. I'll go stink up another thread.

Step on this rune to damage the enemy !

I know i shouldn't bash on a game before release but this looks boring to say the least and the character design is just silly.

Seen this yesterday but didn't let a comment, now that I've read the comments I decided to look at the trailer and II gotta say this looks interesting (and totally not like bad anime, I don't understand that, the AD is qute interesting and original). Gameplay too, with the runes.

I actually thought this game would get a lot of positive comments here.

I like the art style, it's very pretty and it's nice that it's Western and the characters look relatable. I like anime style too, but that's everywhere, so it's nice to have this kind of artstyle. I'm not sure if I'll be a fan of the tile combat, however we don't know much about it and it might be fun, also I really like adventure games so the dialogue choices are something I love and I hope the game will have different results/endings depending on which choices you pick.

It reminded me a bit of Monster Prom, which is another Western game.

I'm going to wait until the game's release before I judge it too harshly. ^_^

I am a fan of games and other media that 'think outside the box' when it comes to world and (female) character design.

The maps in the trailer look pretty good but the characters, despite being monsters, look, well, 'ordinary'. ^_^U

When the playground of one's mind is 'home' to far more beautiful/wondrous manifestations of the human imagination, the generic cliches of mainstream media become obtuse after a (long) while.

I'm sure that any of us can think of better (pocket) universes than this.

Still, I wish the developers of this game luck. ^_^

Don't know where all the negative comments come from. Game looks good to me and the tile combat might be an interesting element.
