Judging from the screens alone this seems to be a VN with choices, right? Can't see any additional gameplay elements.

Agreed. Certainly doesn't feel like an RPG from what I can see. (Not to say it'll be a bad game or anything. Just not what they're saying it is.
If this is supposed to be an RPG, might as well kiss the genre goodbye. Good greif.

that's what I figured too. based on this, telltale could've marketed their games as rpgs as well. very few things lower than a straight-up misleading title referring to a genre the game has nothoing to do with. humble sure knows how to pick questionable (to say the least) devs.
This game looks entirely like a visual novel, not an RPG at all.

The issue is the genre pollution that was created by redefining RPG as a game where you assume the role of a specific character.

We might as well say that everything with combat is an action game, everything with on screen dialogue to read is a visual novel, and everything with guns is a shooter. There's an argument to be made here about applying the simulation genre to practically everything, and anything with tasks to complete must be an adventure.

The problem with this argument is that these genres have to bleed together by neccessity; an FPS without action isn't really engaging, is it? A game were you control a character shooting guns *has* to be a shooter of some sort, right? Even if an RPG where you're not blasting mutants or slaying dragons might be unique, it would still end up under the label of some RPG-subgenre, so how do you even define RPG beyond "you create the role of a character in a setting"?

That all being said, I still agree here: this may have elements of an RPG, but you're playing a specific character in a Visual Novel, so this ain't no RPG.
Neat concept, but after looking at the voice cast and seeing this entry:
Troy Baker

Fuck, all my interest in the game is instantly gone.

Edit: Felicia Day is another huge nope.

Based on the demo from Steam Next Fest, this is pretty much correct. The only thing that could be described as an 'RPG' element was getting to select 1 of 3 traits at the beginning of the game, which occasionally gives you alternative dialogue options. I'm not normally into VNs myself, but I love the idea of a videogame musical so much that I'm still tempted by it.
Nice! First noticed this games a couple of months ago, was caught by the premise (don't think anybody has made a musical game like this before) and voted for it on the community wishlist. So thank you GOG, Humble and Summerfall for bringing it here!

Looks good, the premise of a "RPG musical" sounds interesting...but sentences like: "a race against time" or "before time runs out" (from the game's page), usually ruin games for me.

Depends on how it's done, of course...but without more info on that, I remain sceptic.

What can I say, when you simply can't stand how a certain voice sounds there's nothing you can do about it.
Don't act like you don't know the feeling. :P

That's fair enough. There's some very popular ones I can't stand (though more in live action than voice acting I think). I was more making fun of how you didn't give us a clue as to what the problem is. These days it's just as likely to be some twitter drama, or pretty much anything, really.

I'm going to wait for more information before a final judgement as I do like the idea of crossing an RPG with a musical (I quite enjoyed the Bards Tale which although only being an action RPG had some good musical numbers). My worry with this game is that it looks like it might be a post-Walking Dead Telltatle style game (which for the avoidance of doubt isn't a good thing - Telltale went downhill fast after the Back to the Future game)
