An iconic classic, fully remastered by the team at Nightdive Studios, through its proprietary KEX engine, allowing the game to run on modern gaming devices at up to 4K resolution at 120FPS.

STAR WARS™: Dark Forces Remaster is coming soon to GOG!

Expect all fourteen original levels, featuring Star Wars™ worlds and capital ships, engaging first-person ground combat featuring ten weapons and twenty types of enemies, Personal Digital Assistant (providing you with in game information such including map, inventory, and mission briefing), modern gamepad support, controller support, advanced 3D rendering, up to 4K 120FPS visuals, and much more!

The original 1995 Star Wars: Dark Forces raised the bar for FPS games, offering players a significant degree of movement and interactivity, a large selection of items and power-ups, and engaging environments.

In that iconic title you assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire. Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance’s covert operations division tasked with infiltrating the Galactic Empire, where he discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project. The development of this powerful new series of Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers stands to strengthen the Empire’s grip on the galaxy unless Katarn and the Rebel Alliance intervene.

With STAR WARS™: Dark Forces Remaster, every new and returning player will be able to enjoy all of that with upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for gamepads.

Make sure to wishlist the game now so you won’t miss its release or any special offer. With Nightdive Studios behind the wheel, we couldn’t be more excited!

Also, to others who are Kyle Katarn fans...

It had to be said. That, and "WTF Disney?"

True, true ... and X-Wing fans also know how Leia got them.

Honestly, as much as I like Kyle and dislike having him erased, having stealing the Death Star plans relegated to what amounts to the tutorial level always felt kinda lame to me. I know they wanted to hook the players immediately, and in that sense I guess it works, but to me it's a waste and makes everything else later in the game suffer in comparison.

For all the crap Disney did to Star Wars, replacing that one level with Rogue One is a trade I can totally get behind.

Also, weren't the Death Star plans stolen like fifteen different times in the old expanded universe?

I wouldn't say so. I really liked uncovering the Dark Trooper project. The first mission was more of a send-off to the movies with the game's own plot starting after that.

Also, I love how blatant Rogue One was about it. Jan Ors - Jyn Erso. Can you be a bit more on the nose with it maybe? Out of respect for Dark Forces, I have not and will ever not watch Rogue One.

I'm sorry, but that's really ridiculous. Almost sad, really. Refusing to watch a damn good movie because it contradicts a single level in a video game from decades before. A level that doesn't even tell any story. The idea of stying forever shackled to that... utter nonsense.

But then I never really treated anything in the games, books or comics as "canon", neither before or after Disney.

Also, like I said, even before Rogue One this shit got stolen more than a nerd's lunch money. Getting upset over Rogue One in this context... really damn silly.

Well, out of all the Disney Star Wars movies, Rogue One is the best (and as a bonus: the Andor series).
Great! Another cash grab... Still I love the game so I'll be happy to replay it in this version.
Edit: nvm, don't want to derail the thread too much.

+1. I thought Rogue One was much better than any of the sequel movies.

Agreed. I would also add to the above, that the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story is also worth a watch, because the atmosphere and the whole feel is all right.
Well, on Rogue One... I will admit it was very neat to finally see a battle with Imperials in a tropical island setting. Especially with AT-AT walkers!

Breja is right that the Deathstar plans were being "stolen" by everyone and their grandmother waaay before Rogue One, though. But I really understand idbeholdME's position - sometimes it doesn't matter how good a movie is, we just don't want good memories messed with because "some" Disney CEO decided to milk that one specific cash cow...

It took me almost 2 years before I saw Rogue One after release. I let the whole family (sisters, parents, uncle/aunt/4 cousins) see it first and get their feelings. I am not a fan of Erso, I was one of those who started cheering when Darth Vader turned on that lightsaber and handed the "rebel scum" a taste of Sith Lord awesomeness. Other stuff was really nice, too, like showing what a "limited yield" shot from the DS could do.

The biggest attraction of the Dark Forces series, at least for me personally, is the fact Kyle Katarn doesn't have a bunch of pansies running around saying, essentially, "oh man, you get mad and you're going to hell, dude!"

If I'm getting SHOT AT, what the heck do you think I'm going to feel like??

Yeah, it really opens up in Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II and I know this is a DF1 thread. But that's what I like most about Kyle Katarn - he basically threw out the formulaic Jedi mysticism like the rancid blue milk it is and took a totally practical approach to it all. The Force is a tool, and sometimes the best way out of a sticky situation is to Force Choke the annoyance out of existence while throwing explosives everywhere... :D

I got through Episodes 1-3 and my biggest takeaway was "geez, how in the hell did the Jedi survive for 20,000 years against TENS OF THOUSANDS of Sith? Real zingers of platitudes?"

And the Mandalorians, after playing Knight of the Old Republic. Former Sith Lords like Revan are miiiighty useful!
