An iconic classic, fully remastered by the team at Nightdive Studios, through its proprietary KEX engine, allowing the game to run on modern gaming devices at up to 4K resolution at 120FPS.

STAR WARS™: Dark Forces Remaster is coming soon to GOG!

Expect all fourteen original levels, featuring Star Wars™ worlds and capital ships, engaging first-person ground combat featuring ten weapons and twenty types of enemies, Personal Digital Assistant (providing you with in game information such including map, inventory, and mission briefing), modern gamepad support, controller support, advanced 3D rendering, up to 4K 120FPS visuals, and much more!

The original 1995 Star Wars: Dark Forces raised the bar for FPS games, offering players a significant degree of movement and interactivity, a large selection of items and power-ups, and engaging environments.

In that iconic title you assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire. Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance’s covert operations division tasked with infiltrating the Galactic Empire, where he discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project. The development of this powerful new series of Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers stands to strengthen the Empire’s grip on the galaxy unless Katarn and the Rebel Alliance intervene.

With STAR WARS™: Dark Forces Remaster, every new and returning player will be able to enjoy all of that with upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for gamepads.

Make sure to wishlist the game now so you won’t miss its release or any special offer. With Nightdive Studios behind the wheel, we couldn’t be more excited!
Great news! It's always nice to see more Star Wars games. Not all remasters from Night Dive were high-quality, but this one looks pretty good.
Nice, hope they can include the option to be able to save the game during the missions and not only after ending...

And never managed to finish the original, got stuck in one of the first levels, with something like a water channel maze of sorts...
I love Dark Forces, I hope this edition supports custom maps.
Kyle Katarn, the only true purveyor of Death Star plans. With the help from his trusty pilot, Jan Ors of course. And I won't hear otherwise.

Also, hey, another Nightdive thing. I once again ask you to release Z.A.R. here, which is still inexplicably only on Steam.

Do you mean a Dark Forces that retains the pixel precision of the original without making me want to claw my eyes out? Okay, I'm interested. I wonder if the old cheat codes would still work...

Am I the only one who thinks the screenshots and trailer look awful?

The cutscenes, in particular, seem really bad to me. Towards the end of the trailer, the comparison between the original and the remastered cutscene made me appreciate how well the original is done. The remastered is too stiff, and it's made worse by the fact that it's more detailed.

I also find that the textures are too detailed now, which clashes with the angular environments.

I guess I will have to ignore this one, and try The Force Engine source port instead.

Interesting! There were already people on GOG asking for a REMAKE or REMASTER of this game. Looks like they got their wish, congratulations! Maybe one day I can see a PC REMAKE or REAMASTER of JVC's Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back (originally released on the SNES.) Honestly, it's a game I have a great fondness and memory for. For now, we'll see what happens with this REMASTER. Thanks, GOG and Nightdive Studios! =)
Thankfully Night Dive allows the originals to stay up too.

Also, they completely neglect to mention the game's sound on the store page, and this is another area where TFE is strong, with soundfonts that can be switched from the game's menu ...
Haven't tried that yet. I use my standard MIDI device (VirtualMidiSynth) with HQ Orchestral sounds v3 and Arachno. What MIDI synthesizer does TFE use internally? FluidSynth?

As long as the game lets me select the MIDI device, I'm happy.
Please take my money. I'm hopeful Nightdive Studios are considering doing macOS / Linux ports.

Sorry to go against the grain, but I admit I am not interested enough to this remake. Even with the updated engine it seems too dated. I recall enjoying the original back in the day, but after retrying it lately... nah.

In other news, today I realized I've never really liked The Beatles, and consider it an overrated and boring band. I realized this when I heard the classic "All you need is love" on car radio today. An overly boring and flat song, like most of The Beatles production. Their early songs like "She loves you" and "Postman" weren't any better, simple bubblegum pop for naive teenage girls.

I must remember to tell this to my big brother who I recall being a big fan of The Beatles when I was a small kid (he became a fan long after The Beatles had already broken up), owning all their albums both as LPs and CDs, and he was devastated when Lennon was shot.

Same for my big sister, she was a big fan too, just like the rest of the world. Except me. Damn I am special, in a cool way.

This one goes straight to my wishlist! This will be a day 1 purchase , maybe after some beers so I can justify it :D
It looks simple and to the point- no change at all except better graphics. It's as though Kyle Katarn put on some prescription glasses and now he can actually clearly see things more than 10 feet in front of him. While some extra content of some kind would have been nice, this is still an extremely welcome remaster. The gameplay and story of Dark Forces still hold up, but the graphics are like viewing a Seurat painting from three inches away on modern machines. It'll be nice to see something other than blurry clumps of pixels at long last!
