I just wanted to say thanks for bringing us these games, both originally and then again today. SF1 in particular I played extensively back in the day -- so much so that I recognized your name the minute I saw it here in the forums. I missed SF2, but then a few years later Star Legions ate another chunk of my life.

I have always admired how ambitious these games were for their time. It's good to see them making a comeback.

TrevorSorensen: I'm Trevor Sorensen, the creator of Star Fleet I and Star Fleet II. SF II was released by EA in 1989 in a very buggy form. Interstel provided free updates, but a new version never went on sale. In 1991 I completed an improved and debugged Version 1.5B which is available though many online sites, including the one Brian Rubin mentioned. Although it still has bugs, you can complete the whole game with this version. However, in 2018 I got my 486PC working again, and have been developing a MASSIVE improvement of the game, which will soon be release as Version 2.0. Once it is out, we will be starting on an improved version, which will include graphics, mouse & sound card support, etc. as Star Fleet II Deluxe. As for those of you who want an updated version of Star Fleet I, there is a Windows version of an improved Star Fleet I called Star Fleet Deluxe. It was almost complete (beta testing) when the lead programmer died in 2002, and we lost the source code. However, the manual is complete, and the game can be completed to the end with very few bugs. We plan to offer this to GOG after the release of SF II Version 2.0.
I didnt know this existed
do you guys have pictures or images of the orginal boxart?

Veloxi: PS. Also about Star Fleet I, we plan to look into releasing it once SF2 2.0 is done and dusted. We wanna focus primarily on that first, but it is in the cards. :)
Oh, interesting. So the upcoming release is for a revamped version of the classic, it makes sense now.

Hype mode engaged :). Glad the old hardware still had life in it and looking forward to what will come of it.

The artwork for the Star Fleet II store front is from the box art and painted by Dave Dorman. Contained 3 manuals (main manual was 146 pages), Quick Reference Card, and disks.

Is this game anything like Starflight?
Are "Krellans" supposed to be like Klingons or something?
Looks like the Klingons combined with Romulans in the "worst of both worlds" way: bloodthirsty and treacherous. I am not much of a Trekke, but - based on my limited exposure to the franchise - I do not think that Klingons would teleport captured crew into vacuum to increase morale of their crew. This could be found rather dishonorable.

The original game was supposed to be a Star Trek game, but the deal fell through so all the names had to be changed. I submit Star Fleet II is pretty much the best Trek game. ;)

To be fair Krellans do make treaties and honor them, so they're not totally terrible. They'll just beam some folks into a sun to get the other prisoners talking. ;)

Thank you for your reply. I hope that release of 2.0 version will be sucessfull and generate enough attention to allow you both work on Star Fleet II Deluxe. Best of luck to you and Trevor.

I would say so in some ways, but Star Fleet 2 (and 1) has more detail and depth. But all three are great games. It would be nice if Starflight 1+2 got a makeover as well!

MobyGames also has shots of the front and back of the box. (The text is even more or less readable!)

Someone on Steam asked if this was like Starflight, so I'm gonna paste my answer from there.

Not really no. Starflight is an adventure RPG where you play in a massive galaxy solving clues and finishing a story. This galaxy is huge and static and filled with mysteries.

Star Fleet II is a war simulation in which you play the commander of a battlecruiser and a small fleet as you complete missions and rise up through several ranks. These ranks increase in complexity, as you'll first start with just your battlecruiser, then you'll gain escorts, then you'll be able to invade planets, then you'll have control over all friendly ships in the sector. These sectors are also randomly generated for every mission attempt.

The closest games you'll find to this one are the Battlecruiser 3000/Universal Combat and Rules of Engagement games. There's not really anything else like this one.

I mean they both have exploration and combat but that's really where the similarities end.

I hope this helps.

Not this version no, but an updated version with mouse support is planned for the future.
