Hot spot indicator? What sorcery is this?!

Simon the Sorcerer & Simon the Sorcerer 2: 25th Anniversary Edition are coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
He can be arrogant. He can be obnoxious. He can drive your favorite fairytale characters nuts. If that wasn't enough, he's now also enhanced for his 25th Anniversary! Sporting a modernized control scheme, upscaled visuals, new animations and the option to mix and match all the cool new features with those of the original versions, Simon is back and ready to point & click his way into infamy once more.

The Anniversary editions will be released on April 3rd. The original versions will be removed from sale and added to these as a bonus goodie.
Each Anniversary Edition will cost 8.99 USD.
Owners of the original games will get a 50% discount on them.
Getting both Anniversary editions will grant you a 10% bundle discount.

For anyone wondering, the "stunning HD mode" is just a terribly implemented scaler that makes the games look like molten wax.

I'm a fan of the Simon games and it's good to hear about the updated controls etc., but the new 'HD' graphics mode is absolutely dreadful. Makes it look like the screen is melting.
Oh man.
Oh god, oh man.
Oh god, oh man!
Oh god, oh man!!
Oh god, oh man, OH GOD!!!
I love point & clicks and I never played Simon the Sorcerer, so this looks like a perfect opportunity to finally do so. Looking forward to it (though when I actually pick it up will greatly depend on the price).

_ChaosFox_: Even though I don't even own them on GOG anyway (I still use my retail versions), I'd probably get angry at having to pay full-price again for a modern-day remake but it sounds like this version offers next-to-nothing of benefit over the original, which works just fine from disc and in ScummVM. The newly recorded music and sampled MT-32 music sound interesting but are not essential. The graphical filters look horrendous and the only relief in that regard is that they can be turned off.

Intriguing that there's no price given for the Anniversary Editions.
They can't ask too much, cause no one will buy it, maybe it will be something between 14.99 and max. 19.99 ( which would be way too much)

Day of the Tentacle Remastered: 14.99
Full Throttle Remastered: 14.99

They cant ask more then 14.99..... if they do they become the laughing stock .

I's say even 14.99 is still too much. As all it looks like they have done is slapped a filter on it, and it looks to be the same versions that were released on the Apple/Google Stores a while back.

I'd much rather we got Simon 4 back and had 5 & 6 added here tbh.
Neat!

Optional retro settings: play with original graphics, original music and even the original controls

Caesar.: The option to choose between original and revamped was really great in the Monkey Island Special Editions. But original MI was never sold on GOG, so it's not so good for people who have already bought Simon the Sorcerer.

English voice acting, with the option for adding subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian and Hebrew

Caesar.: So this is gonna solve the current issue that you can play with either voice acting or subtitles, but not both? This alone would make the anniversary edition worthy for me.
Ya i understand it this way as well - so this is a big win i guess. Also the new controls might be worth a try/give a different game experience than in former playthroughs. Same for newly recorded stereo audio which might be good too - nostalgia may force somebody to go back to the original audio ^^. Not to keen on the new graphics though.

Regarding the free update / removal of the classic games discussion (not related to your post but to others) - i don't see any harm - for people who already got the classic games and like them they are allowed to keep them and new need for them to buy the anniversary.
For people who have not gotten the classic games yet but would prefer them over a (maybe) expensive anniversary edition they still have a few weeks left to buy the classic games.
And for people like me who somehow for no reason have not bought the classic editions yet but definitely want to own the games someday but also don't mind a maybe bit changed experience buying the anniversary edition including both original and new edition is a win.

Given that they're adding nothing of value to this release, 14.99 would be 10 too much.

These games, expecially StS 2, had worse problems than outdated graphics. The good pixel art was actually their main selling point. Moon logic, poor story and cringey humour won't go away with a blur filter and making it 3 times more expensive.

Still hoping Touche The Adventures of the Fifth Musketeer ( Initial release date: 1995) arrives .

Bermuda Syndrome ( developed by Century Interactive and published by BMG Interactive in 1995.

Man, you really bring back great memories! Also, GOG, don't forget about... Shivers 1 & 2 :) (yeah, I know, I have asked about those too many times already!)
About the remakes\remasters trend..

the good:
- they could be an interesting reason to replay old games.
- the originals are often still available as a bonus on Gog.
- sometimes there are options to switch old&new graphic on the fly.

the bad:
- every X years, games could be removed and resold even by the same publisher, leaving a bunch of outdated editions in our libraries.
- it's difficult to do a proper remake\remaster. Many alter too much or too little to be worthy.
Also, modernized gameplay & graphics could ruin the uniqueness and the charm of the old titles.

Hmmm, I have a feeling that this version was made in order to release the games on the mobile market...

*does a quick search*
*finds the same game but labeled as 20th Anniversary Edition on Play store*

I wonder what the pricing of the PC anniversary version will be...

You must remember that Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, and Monkey Island remasters are all actual remasters, with brand new hand drawn graphics! They are amazingly and lovingly crafted, especially the Full Throttle remaster, and they're all well worth their price tags.

This is just a money grab with the most minimal amount of work possible done to it. This is the cancer in the industry. A HUGE thumbs down to GOG for going along with it.
