Hot spot indicator? What sorcery is this?!

Simon the Sorcerer & Simon the Sorcerer 2: 25th Anniversary Edition are coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
He can be arrogant. He can be obnoxious. He can drive your favorite fairytale characters nuts. If that wasn't enough, he's now also enhanced for his 25th Anniversary! Sporting a modernized control scheme, upscaled visuals, new animations and the option to mix and match all the cool new features with those of the original versions, Simon is back and ready to point & click his way into infamy once more.

The Anniversary editions will be released on April 3rd. The original versions will be removed from sale and added to these as a bonus goodie.
Each Anniversary Edition will cost 8.99 USD.
Owners of the original games will get a 50% discount on them.
Getting both Anniversary editions will grant you a 10% bundle discount.

cwalter5: There is no justification. If GOG cares about quality it should simply refuse to sell these "remasters". Selling them says it's ok.

The name of your site is Good Old Games. Stand up for yourselves and make sure the originals remain the originals.
They have a choice, sell the remasters with the originals as a bonus OR don't sell Simon 1+2 in any form.
Are you suggesting the latter?

Alexim: Ultimately, will we have in the library a situation like Pathologic (classic edition and remaster separated) or like Darksiders (classic edition and remaster merged)?
avatar
ikrananka: I have the same question.
We are still waiting an official statement about this question, please GOG!

Apparently, there were plans for a proper remastered version with high-resolution graphics at some point.

Isn't that the answer for your question:
The original versions will be removed from sale and added to these as a bonus goodie.

Unfortunately no, it's not yet 100% clear because there is a little but important difference between the two cases I have taken as an example, I explained it in more detail in some posts before.

Wow, that looks great.
I'm putting that picture here, as an interesting comparison to the screenshots of what we're going to actually get as a so-called remaster.

In neither of your above-mentioned examples are the original versions mentioned as goodies in the games' storepages. In Simon the Sorcerer Anniversary 1+2, they do.

lostwolfe: there's a third way - and it's not really /that/ hard:

change the startup screen for the originals, since you own those assets now, then: sell BOTH "25th anniversary" and "old editions" for people who want them.
avatar
Breja: The question was "what should GOG do" not "what should the new rights owner do". GOG can't just decide to keep selling the old game against the owners wishes.
what gog should do is advocate for this style of thing. [and pardon me if this wasn't entirely clear. i was talking about what mojotouch should do to sell to gog.]

it knows it's audience and it probably had a shrewd idea that people would be unhappy with this. as the audience/consumers, it's very clear that we have little say outside of what we tell gog in the forums, but that should speak quite loudly to them about the kinds of things we want.

gog SHOULD be arguing for this style of thing [the suggestion i made.]

i think the bigger problem here, perhaps, is that there's already precedent. so anytime gog whips out, "oh, but you should do this," the publisher will say, "well, shucks. you already allowed bethseda and beamdog to do something different. so...no?"

[ultimately, as big as gog is, it seems to me that gog isn't big enough to leverage it's size to get decent ideas like this through the door/past the publisher. :(]

Then go ahead and ask them:

Like most on line support forums, there's little to no staff involvement here. It's all customer driven.

Its sad thats GOG is lowering its standarts. Selling filtered old picture as remaster... Especially with the fact SCUMMVM can do the same with several different filters on your choice... This crap should be selled on Steam, not here...

Fortunately I already bought series

tomimt: For anyone wondering, the "stunning HD mode" is just a terribly implemented scaler that makes the games look like molten wax.
Yeah, the games art direction doesn't really lend itself to those type of filters. They really have crammed a lot of detail into those backgrounds and a lot of it gets lost with the filter. Too bad they didn't repaint them in high resolution because artistically they still hold up.

I don't know how MojoTouch did it, but they've somehow managed to make Guybrush's model from Monkey Island Special Edition look like quality artwork by comparison. I didn't even know that was possible!

Why should it be "selled" on Steam? Are you really that petty?
