Hot spot indicator? What sorcery is this?!

Simon the Sorcerer & Simon the Sorcerer 2: 25th Anniversary Edition are coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
He can be arrogant. He can be obnoxious. He can drive your favorite fairytale characters nuts. If that wasn't enough, he's now also enhanced for his 25th Anniversary! Sporting a modernized control scheme, upscaled visuals, new animations and the option to mix and match all the cool new features with those of the original versions, Simon is back and ready to point & click his way into infamy once more.

The Anniversary editions will be released on April 3rd. The original versions will be removed from sale and added to these as a bonus goodie.
Each Anniversary Edition will cost 8.99 USD.
Owners of the original games will get a 50% discount on them.
Getting both Anniversary editions will grant you a 10% bundle discount.

GilesHabibula: If you buy the originals now:
$5.99 + $5.99 = $11.98

If you buy the remasters later in order to play the originals, which will be included:
$8.99 + $8.99 = $17.98
GOG have an BUY SERIES discount.
Buy Simon the Sorcerer 1, 2, and 3D altogether are $13.98.
(But Simon the Sorcerer 3D have quite bad review.)
Only 50%. Looks like they are going to the wishlist.
It looks like the've just used some smoothing gfx filter. Don't like it much.

EDIT: But still it seems I'll pick remasters as they've added more languages (including spanish voiceover)

A stunning new HD graphic mode that up-scales the game beautifully to high-resolutions
Stunning, indeed. Exactly as in Polish stunning in English has ambiguous meaning... I've just checked screenshots. It's just unbelievable. Hundreds of new games uses pixel-art to make it more appealing and they think that such a cheap changes are worth be named like above?!

I really wanted to buy the game, but full price is a bit too much for me right now. I suppose there is no chance for discount before the release. Sorry, I'll pass the game then.
It does indeed look like it's just a typical filter applied, and I'd expect the default release to be missing the options to turn off those filters. Hopefully somebody knowledgeable will find a way to turn them off, thus making the games playable with proper sprites, voice acting and subtitles, and most importantly with the added quality of life enhancements(no more pixel hunting).

Defacing all that beautiful pixel art is a pretty cruel way to celebrate a game's 25th anniversary...

Why is GOG attempting to even sell this crapware? this is basically a tweaked version of the games running through a slightly altered version of ScummVM.

Worse I'm not convinced the company even owns the rights to all the language versions of Simon the Sorcerer 1 & 2 that they offer, and they definitely don't own the rights the Roland MT32 ROM that is bundled.

HeartsAndRainbows: You will still be able to download the old version you old after it is no longer available for unbundled purchase. ;)
Thanks and I know I'm old ;)

GilesHabibula: Unless you really want those remasters. True, a couple of other features were added, but if you compare screen shots to the originals, there is simply no way I could play something that looks like that, especially when I know how good the originals look in comparison.

Each to his own, however. Maybe I'm missing something.
My two cents (or six dollars):

According to the game page, you can play the anniversary edition with the original graphics, so that doesn't bother me. Then... why would I buy the new one instead of the original?

The way I see it, the main change is the ability to play with voice acting + subtitles (as I said in an earlier post). At least in Simon 1 ( I don't know about 2) you can only play with one or the other, but not both. This is huge for me. That's also the way I watch my movies and shows. Maybe it's not significant enough for someone whose first language is English, but I don't want to play with the fear of not understanding everything that is said.

The new controls and hotspot system might also be useful, but for me voice acting + subtitles is worth the new price alone. And I will probably buy it at a sale, so it's not that much.

No, they don't need to bundle the mt-32 rom. With scummvm you can just put some music files in a directory, like mp3 (actually .ogg are the most commonly used) and the game with pick that up instead of the midi. So you don't need mt-32 emulation.

Have you tried the James Woodcock music replacements for Discworld, Beneath A Steel Sky or Simon The Sorcerer? Really, try them.

EDIT: isn't the filter the good old 2xsal? https://vdnoort.home.xs4all.nl/emulation/2xsai/

That only works for Simon the Sorcerer 1, and Roland MT-32 is been offer for both games.

It uses the AGOS engine as well. Same way you patch Simon 1 will probably work for Simon 2. The thing is that James Woodcock nor anyone else have done the re recorded sountracks, so far.

Sure, but what about the fucked up aspect ratio?

I need to check this. Do we know for sure the aspect ratio is changed even with original graphics selected?

No, that remains to be seen.

The so-called improved graphics of this new version don't exactly inspire me with confidence in MojoTouch's abilities though.
