The eagerly anticipated continuation of the epic story-driven saga from the award-winning game director Yu Suzuki is drawing near. Shenmue III is coming soon DRM-free on GOG.COM! Take control of Ryo Hazuki, a teenage martial artist, determined to unravel the mystery behind his father's death.

Exceed20XX: Valkyria Chronicles (first one), Sonic Adventure DX, Space Channel 5 Part 2, Sega Bass Fishing, and Crazy Taxi are all DRM-free on Steam. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive collection also used to be DRM-free over there too (might not be now after the last batch of updates) but you can still use the roms it provides for emulators and such. Sonic 3K's Steam rom also inserts into an unofficial PC native remaster that can run without Steam. (Sonic 3 A.I.R.)

Once you've used the client to download the games you can just pack them up and use them elsewhere, regardless of if Steam is installed or not.
Oh I see. Well I already have them then. Good to know they can still work if something were to ever happen to Steam.

Or if you just want to move them around without needing it. You may need to add a text file to make some work though, you can consult the Steam DRM-free thread here or message me if you have confusion as to how it works.

It just confuses me why Sega won't just advertise them here as well if they're not going to lock them down but I'm not going to complain. Any place that can add to the cause (when GOG can't be given the proper chance to) helps.

tfishell: btw the release date is wrong I think - "November 19, 2020" should be "November 19, 2019". But it looks like the store page still has some work to be done anyway, looking at the empty "System requirements". edit: I guess that was the EGS release date, but maybe GOG won't be going by that.

ChrisSZ: Yeah, GOG recently does that with Epic exclusives to gloss over the fact that the games are already one year old.

Comes close to fraudulent labeling, if you ask me.

Same happened with Observation when the release date on the game card was "post-dated" by one year.
They have made that kind of false labelling for years.
I really hope GOG gets the first two games too.

Be cool, SEGA.

That doesn't make it any better, though.

With lots of goodwill, one could think "Well, maybe the 'Release Date' on the game card is supposed to be the date when GOG released the game, and not when the game was released for the first time". But one can easily dismiss this by looking at some old games' game cards.

It is misleading, and it is intentional

I would like it if GOG managed to get SEGA aboard, such as the Valkyria Chronicles series. Even better if they could commission Atlus to port Persona 5 Royale as an GOG exclusive.

Now that's some wishful thinking. I would likely have a heart attack while trying to click the purchase button if there was a port of ANY Persona game available here.

I wish GOG would have announced this a little earlier, I broke down and bought Shenmue III on EGS just over two weeks ago and can no longer return it. :( My fault being a little too impatient I guess.

MarkoH01: I would be more thrilled if we would have part 1 and 2 here as well. It's not GOG's fault but I just have extreme problems starting any series with another part but 1. It's a "me" problem but that's the way it is. The only exception I made was Saint's Row since part 1 does not exist on PC and I did not have a choice at all.
Had a former friend that hated the idea that I wanted to play Witcher 1 and 2 before Witcher 3 as I wanted to get the most out of the story as I did with Mass Effect (though I knew the ending to the Witcher series would be far more satisfying lol)
so I can completely understand your feelings on it. To me a story may not be the most important thing when it comes to gaming but I sure as Hell want to have my time made meaningful when playing.
Will the content from the day one edition also be part of the package? (snake power, tokens, costumes, moves, available from the start of the game)

What about the download content Battle Rally, Big Merry Cruise, Story Quest Pack?

Xscape2041: That's a surprise. I will for sure buy it, even though I already got it from kickstarter.

Is it perfect and AAA? No, but expect at least a very charming game that i personally don't know how one couldn't like it at all. Especially if you experienced part 1+2 in it's time.
It's very much a game that doesn't respect the player's time, for starts. I can summarize the story of the 3 games to date like this:

Ryu is on a quest to avenge his father. This has lead him to leave the seedy backstreets of Japan and travel to China. There he...

And that's about it.

Everything between is chaff. Filler. Fluff. Bulking Agents. Corn Syrup. If Shenmue were a movie, this would be something that occurs within the first 30 minutes or first act, rather than getting painfully stretched over 72± hours, due to the games forcing you to wait, grind, or do mundane activities.

What Shemue has managed to stretch into three games is what most games would have done as their prelude or prologue.
You are not wrong, but somehow this is part of its charm for me. Especially the first area of the game was very Shenmue and therefore perfect for me.

After several months of not knowing what to do in the second area I started a new try today on PS4. So I don't know yet how I will feel about the rest of the game.

Although the stamina system in part 3 is a pain in the...
When running, it uses up the energy very fast, which means you have to eat again, and to eat again you have to earn money in order to be able to properly explore at all...
Will for sure use the mod to turn that off once I get the chance to play it on a PC and also the one to increase the draw distance.

Too bad Baisha got cut from the game and the second area expanded in the game instead. That said, I think they got a solid base now from which they can work on and improve for an eventual part 4.

I never said it did and just pointed out they have done that practice for years by now. It's just straight up scummy behavior, as it makes people think some games are newer than they actually are. After all, people tend to not pay as much for older games. So if you label a game from 2003 as being from 2015, well...
I finished it today. Trust me, this game is worth your time, despite some technical flaws for the 2020.
Its still beyond epic, magical and charming.

I hungry for more and hope Shenmue 4 gets made

How long/short is Shenmue 3?

~18-20-ish hours seems to come up frequently if just going through the story.
