4-vektor: It’s still running, it seems. And I heard from a few Phoenix Point investors that they even got some nice returns from their investment on Fig. Why are you calling it a scheme? I guess I’m not up to date on bad practices of that site.
I'm calling it a scheme because it honestly reads a bit wild. This video goes into it a bit.

The TLDR is that the company is beheld to no absolutes, so they can do as they please; such as was the case of Phoenix Point.

RoseLegion: ...shortened for easier reading....
Post scrip: Since it seems I've missed some of their communications on the subject, if you have any links for those, especially links that would provide dates as well so that their communications can be properly contextualized by when they chose to share them I'd be interested in reading them. Because you are absolutely right, transparency and communication deserve credit. And if I've missed something pertinent and timely that they shared I would like to see it so I can revise my perspective accordingly and give them whatever credit is due the transparency they've offered.
I can't find a link per se, but it was mentioned in a backer email when the news were first announced officially (March 12, 2019)
Here's an outtake of what Julian Gollop said in the announcement (of what is relevant to your comment):
"Hi! I’m Julian Gollop, the creative director of Phoenix Point and the CEO of Snapshot Games.

I have some major news to share: we have signed a deal with Epic Games to bring Phoenix Point exclusively to the Epic Games Store for its first year of release on PC and Mac.
...
We want to share our success with all the backers who have helped us get here, so we have a special benefit to announce: if you backed or pre-ordered Phoenix Point at any time since our crowdfunding campaign until today, you will receive a year of free DLC. "

Highlight by me for easier reference.
As I understood Gollop's announcement at that time, this was a timed exclusive for one year and after that PP would be released on all platforms. The announcement, however, did NOT mention anything about other platforms so by just reading it or listening to the statement could easily be interpreted as exclusive on Epic for ever.
The fact that it would be released on a preferred platform was clarified later, I believe in an AMA they had, but I can't verify this as I didn't follow that.

This is just to give you the information I have on the topic. I'm not trying to convince you or saying you are "wrong" for some reason (you're not, I'm still in total agreement with all you wrote in your last comment!).
What they did to their backers could be handled a lot better and they lost credibility for that, as they should.

Now I'm off to delete my Epic installation and make room for the new, shiny and much better GOG installation of PP :D
(Sorry, not trying to be rude or anything, but I've clocked ~170 hours on this game and I'm still excited about starting a new campaign)
high rated
Year-long Epic exclusivity deals don't affect me in the slightest because I usually wait a year for a polished version of the game that should've been out on release day anyway.

Phoenix Point is one of the most egregious examples I can think of though. They built a game off crowdfunding, and then broke their own terms listed on the fig page which stated backers would receive Steam or GOG keys. All of this is forgivable if the game was strugging to see release without additional funds, but Gollop didn't give that reason. They took the deal because it would secure their jobs for the near future, bypass the market, and make Phoenix Point an immedidate success before it had sold a single copy

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The peasants (backers) are moved to economy class seating the moment someone in a suit shows up.

RoseLegion: Indeed.
I was so happy to back this on Kickstarter and then there was the fundmental breech of trust when bag of cash proved of more value than respect for the backers who'd supported the project.

Still has a real possibility of being a good game... just not one I would put any money toward until development is 100% over since the developer has already proven how ilttle respect they have for their community.

4-vektor: PP was backed on Fig, not on Kickstarter.

As a backer, I was quite disappointed after their one-year EGS exclusivity stunt. It wouldn’t have ben half as bad if Snapshot Games hadn’t promised to publish PP on GOG and Steam from day one.

At least backers get the first 5 DLCs for free as “compensation”.
You are in fact correct. My post should state Fig.
I back a lot on both (and also on Indiegogo, I'm kind of into crowd funding things).

I'll leave my prior post unedited as we've cleared up it's error here and that could get confusing otherwise (and besides particular crowdfunding platform aside, the primary content of the post is still relevant).

I appreciate the information and that fact that you took the time to dig it up for me.
That is better communication that I recall from them on the subject so whether I missed the e-mail, or miss read it I'm glad to have the added detail, I do consider it relevant.

Wouldn't have done me personally much good - based on the text excerpt specifically - since it doesn't also offer to still let backers redeem their rewards on the other platforms that were initially offered (I'd have been content to wait for that, not thrilled, but content). However in light of what you've provided above I could believe that they actually did explicitly make that offer and I somehow missed it.
If that is indeed the case then a modification of my point of view is certainly in order.
Even that aside the information you've provided alone does mitigate to some extent and I'm a proponent of credit where it's due, so again thanks for taking the time to let me know about this.

Cheers :)

ps ~ regardless of my sentiments about the business side of this situation I'm glad you're enjoying your game =)

Finally! A week late, like in the good old times :P

Bugfix #5 will be most welcome by me. I was getting tired of having to send my ship elsewhere to return to the excavation site again in order to continue the harvesting...
