I couldn't be happier :)
Between this and "The Starry Expanse" project, it is a great time to be a Cyan fan.

Apparently a lot of people don't want another version of Myst, but this is exactly what I have been waiting for. So thank you, Cyan!
i Have avoided buying the first Myst on gog because i already have it on steam and i was hoping for some gog connect on it
but perhaps il buy this new version here when it comes out.
I can't stand it when studios decide to do this (make something different but re-use an existing name to capitalize on the existing fan base), whether it's TV shows, movies, or games. If you 're going to make something different, then just make something different. If you're going to remaster or recreate something to make it fit modern play styles and run on modern devices, then do so, but be true to the original. If you're going to "re-imagine", "remake", or "reboot" something, fundamentally changing it from the original, then call it something different (in this case, maybe something like "Myst Reawakened").

michaliszorzos: Well, it's not that i don't like it... but i don't get it, this game already has 4 versions, did it really need a 5th one?
It's one of the best selling pieces of software of all time, with massive mainstream nostalgic appeal. Of course investors see money in another version with VR sales pushing potential.
Well at least if the Atomic Clock ever fails, they can fall back on the reliable releases of new Mysts to tell time.
Back to the 90's ! ... No wait, the 2000's ! ... No, the 2010's ! ... Ehhh.... Nevermind !
Tbh Myst kinda loses it's appeal once you know the solutions by heart. But that said I'll still buy this because Myst was one of the first PC-Windows games I ever played and nostalgia is one hell of a drug.

ChrisGamer300: It would be nice if we could get 16k resolution support too !

nightcraw1er.488: That’s remake 23 in 2031.
Hah, exactly what i thought but i honestly wouldn't be surprised with all the different editions of this game.
When I saw this thread, I just thought someone had necroed an ancient release thread..
I guess now it will take more time to explain to today's kids what the different versions of Myst are than what Myst is all about.

(Imaginary scenario)

[Kid in the 2020s] So I played this cool new game called Myst on the PS5...
[Me] Here we go again...

First thought I had as well, honestly.
Picture the scene, it’s 2023, GOG post a new news item:
The time draws near to explore the classic adventure game in a new way! Cyan, the indie studio that created Myst is now reimagining this classic game. Built from the ground up to play with anal controller and retinal imprinting with AI upscaled artwork to 8k, sound, interactions, and even “optional” facebook integration.
Note: only available through our optional client, requires third party accounts with Facebook, google, uplay, steam, FDA, KGB, Chinese authorities, and can only be played whilst wearing a full hazmat suit for protection against corona.

Ah, this immortal art of milking the fools by selling them the same old candy in new wrapping again and again... and again.

nightcraw1er.488: Picture the scene
You just forgot to mention that that innovating amazing game will have to be played while kneeling on the debris of monuments of the best men of your country's past, in presence of three spouse transgender black-skinned Muslim supervisors in paranjas lulling their genetically enhanced test-tube-engendered brat (whose skin color remains invisible for my inner eye but I guess I can see something resembling the rainbow).
It looks great and it will certainly find its audience among the younger folks, but i don't see much value to anyone who have already played it, unless VR is really your kind of thing.

And for anyone who hasn't played Myst already, it may be much better to actually buy the whole series for the same money this remaster will cost (pure speculation here, but i don't think it will cost less than 25 euros anyway).
