B1tF1ghter: No. You let yourself do that. I am not a part of it.
I merely made a subtle reference without going into ANY details UNLIKE YOU.
So, really, YOU make an attempt at derailing here.

For the sake of shutting up this derail I will tightly respond here just for the sake of those uninformed who would read your post and come to wrong conclusions based on that becasue of not having made own research and thus not knowing any better.
But this post is all I'm willing to talk about it. There is a separate thread about it and no amount of dragging me into this (by you or anyone else) will make me restructure THIS thread into another copycat thread about the same thing.
Indeed I am, I hope I did not come across as blaming it on some else. I am the proud derailer here, no questions asked, no ground given. I own this, and will not share it. It was a squeal of joy of having the opportunity to derail a blue post.

avatar
amok: you can not say that countries have a 1:1 market value, and that's what it important if you want to make monies
avatar
B1tF1ghter: I don't know any, even just one, case of some countries' markets being basically exact same va
But you can't imply a China-market-worth == entire-elsewhere-market-worth because it's nowhere near that, not even close.
1'st line - my point exactly. Second - The chinese market is huge. Not only due to the size, but it is also growing in terms of indivisual spendage. So it is large now, and becoming larger. Sure, many countries have a large individual spendage, but even if we say that only 20% of the Chinese can afford buying games, this is 300 Million, so almost the same number as total USA citizens.
(and I know spendage is not a real English word, but I like it. Use it enough and it will become one)

avatar
amok: The Chinese population is currently 1.5 Billion. Compare this with for example USA, which has a population of 332 Million
avatar
B1tF1ghter: I think this is completely irrelevant as it was already brought up SEVERAL TIMES in few other dedicated threads that what GOG does here while stepping on thin ice is risking loosing most of it's international market customers for the sake of ONE country.
I will not go into details as you have read that and other interested people can go read that too in the related thread.
GOG doesn't operate in just one country, it does so internationally, you cannot compare population of one country with another.
Especially since you don't actually have data on how much of those 1.5 B would even buy games in GOG store. Even just cut elderly and some "technologically restricted" (for various reasons) people and you will get much lower cut.
Hehe, yes.... if you think that the rest of the world cares. The customers here (apart from the Chinese) will fall in to 4 categories
1 - The people who are upset, and as a result will stop buying games from gOg
2 - The people who are upset, but are still going to buy games from gOg
3 - The people who know abou this, but do not care
4 - People who do not know about gOg, never used gOg, will never use gOg.

Now ask yourself, which group do you think is largest? Which is the smallest? And do you think the pepole in group 1 will outweigh the potential Chinese market? (the Boycott thread I think is now 70 people strong....I wonder how large the normal monthly churn from gOg is...)

avatar
B1tF1ghter: On top of that if GOG would want to bring up entire store there with all current catalouge they would be unable to sell most of this stuff due to Chinese censorships rules and they would have to geoblock specific titles in China. Which would result in 2 things:
1.GOG mostly selling just few let-through games and thus not exactly having as much income from there as you imply
2.GOG being proven complete hypocrites by abiding to forced-by-Chinese-GOV geoblocking JUST-IN-CHINA of MANY games while previously blocking a game INTERNATIONALLY based on unverified-CUSTOMERS biased requests.
AFIK gOg are selling their entire catalouge there.... they are doing it (as most other Western companies) by flying under the radar and not drawing attention to themselves.... which is what this is all about.... The PRC is a bit hypcritical here, as they have a kind of "no show, no tell" policy, but as soon you grab attention you get hit by the ban hammer.

avatar
amok: population of the earth is 7.7 Billion. This means that the Chinese make up 18.5% of the worlds population. That is a huge sliCe.
avatar
B1tF1ghter: You know what is a huge slice? 81.5 %. This is how much GOG is risking loosing ACCESS TO if they take one step to many.
If GOG steps too far, which they are dangerously close to doing, they will be subject to Polish, EU and international laws regarding doing close business with China and would therefore get banhammered by EU and some other places and would get severly limited in doing business OUTSIDE-of-China.
If GOG so desperately wants to otherthrow estabilished steady income userbase for ONE market that MAYBE could be profitable while unstable then if they step too far they will end up there and nowhere else.
See above

avatar
B1tF1ghter: I merely made one sneaky remark that GOG actually doesn't care about lack of censorship.
I DELIBERATELY did not use related game's name. It is not in my intention to derail this thread.
But you don't seem to be bothered by derailing it yourself. Well, in any case, I am not going to be a part of it.
Do as you please.
But I don't intend to talk about THE game HERE.
Lets see if you can manage this, and keep to your word :)

Me, on the other hand, i'm a happy derailer.

avatar
B1tF1ghter: If you want to argue that international block of an indie game with already-removed-"offending-content" instead of geoblocking it in 1 country and all that because of unproven influx of complaints allegedly processed suspiciously fast (in just few hours) while there is even a sticky post from blue about substantial support ticket delays and all that is in your opinion justified because "China is a large market and circa approaching 1/5 of world population" then go ahead and argue about it in one of few threads dedicated to it.
As said in a different thread, it would not work to just geoblocking it. You are applying a different sensibility to it than the Chineese sensibility. This is not the same at all as with censorship in for example German and Australia, where they are happy for the games to exist and being sold, except in this country. This games mocked their glorious leader. If gOg was simply geoblocking it, it would have been seen as gOg is still aproving and promoting the game, and therefore an enemy of the state and their glorious leader. What they want is to obliterate the game, and the makers, out of all existence. For which geoblocking..... is not a solution.

avatar
B1tF1ghter: I will not do that here.
My small one sentence remark was just fyi to everybody that GOG really does not care about NOT censoring content.
*giggle*

MarkoH01: What didn't you understand? On Steam HP2 is not accessible from Germany - well, at least not without VPN.
avatar
NuffCatnip: I think he was simply shocked that a game wasn't geolocked because of it's detail of violence but another reason. :)
Like I said before - that's completely understandable. So now we wil lhave troubles with violence AND sexuality ... no matter how hardcore or softcore the game might be. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah, german law is a beast of its own. :/
Or rather idiots making problems where there are none.

And I also did the mistake that I believed, he meant, that the game is regionlocked on GOG here. My bad!
And yeah: normally a game wouldn`t be censored here in Germany for "the naked truth", only for being very bloody and brutal.
But since a few years, most brutal games come out here in Germany totally uncensored. I still don`t understand why "Dying Light" is locked in Germany.

It really is mind-boggling. :P
The new characters look awful.

Pomfinebara: it's still kinda ridiculous that GOG is the only place that still requires devs to censor their games
They're also the only place that marks the wishlist entry for "Uncensored versions of games" as "in progress" while at the same time demanding that devs censor their games.

Hypocrisy is the name of their game.

Crosmando: The new characters look awful.
Yeah, they're really taking a page from the Punch Out school of racial subtlety.

And then there's the ganguro character which is just a different blackface. No other way to put that.

You know that Poland is VERY katholic and VERY conservative? So it is quite understandable, that GOG has "issues" with sex / pornography in their homecountry. I would have prefered GOGs HQ being in France, but we cannot change those things. :(

I think it ah... er... hmmm... releases... tomorrow. Not that I'm following it or anything.

Crosmando: It's a porn game, what else is there?
It is not. Itr is more or less an erotic approach of a satire about dating sims that does not take itself too seriously while still offering interesting additional gameplay. At least that's what the first one was and I doubt this one would be extremely different.

The GOG Database has picked up some files being added to the ID, so I expect it to be released later today...
