Blastprocessor42: I was excited for this game until I saw the absolute bullshit that is the EULA for Dusk.
In short, the developers:
1. Reserve the right to collect personally identifiable information on you (specific datapoints not listed, could be anything and everything)
2. Reserve the right to revoke your license
- Failure to report a bug/glitch is listed as a valid reason for revoking your license
3. Prohibit the act of modifying or decompiling the game's files; for any reason, even personal use
4. Limit you to a single install of Dusk (can't install it on both your laptop and desktop)
5. Include Binding Arbitration clauses
6. Use Legally stringent terminology such as "yo, bro", "yarrrrr", "fuckhead", "oof", and "that's a paddlin'"
That's going to be an automatic no-buy from me if this horrendous EULA is included on the GOG release, not only because such a EULA is complete nonsense, but also because the terms in of themselves are a form of DRM.
jefequeso: Umm, so most of the EULA should not be taken that seriously lol. It's mostly a meme.
1. We don't. I don't even think we have the resources to do anything like that
2. We won't. Unless you like... I dunno murder Dave's sister or something. Reporting a bug or glitch DEFINITELY would not be cause to revoke a license. Far from it, we want all bus and glitches reported so we can fix them.
3. There were people decompiling Dusk on our official Discord before it was even out of EA. The guy who's currently working on the SDK got the job because he was hacking the pre release version doing crazy stuff with it. We'll probably glare at you if you're ripping assets out and using them for stuff without giving credit (and honestly just wait for the official .wad release that we plan on doing along with the sdk) but we're not going to be pursuing legal action or anything unless you've MAJORLY screwed up and like... I dunno, made Dusk 2 and sold it without our permission and made a bunch of money or whatever.
4. Naw go nuts. Dusk isn't even wrapped with DRM on Steam atm.
5. Don't even know what this is tbh
6. Yup the entire EULA is a big meme because :3
F4LL0UT: One would think that jefequeso would drop by to celebrate this occasion. I mean, when he started working on the game he was still one of the most active GOGers.
jefequeso: I'm here I'm here! Just late. Was at PAX sick as a dog.
F4LL0UT: He's basically the game's
only dev. Heck, he still doesn't even use a company name, GOG and Steam just say that the game was developed by David Szymanski (obviously his real name). New Blood Interactive is just the publisher. I think they did the multiplayer, music was also done by somebody else, but besides that it's entirely his own game as far as I know.
jefequeso: Yup I (David Szymanski) did 90% of the game, with New Blood lead Dave Oshry collabing on design and story, music by Andrew Hulshult, and the multiplayer component done by NB staff (who all started out as Dusk fans first and were hired to work on QA and assorted other things during early access).
We talked about modifying the development credit to be David Szymanski and New Blood Interactive to be super accurate but Dave (Oshry) was against that.
Berzerk2002: Dave Oshry said on the Steam forums that GOG Connect is confirmed. So once it's available you should be able to get it without having to pay again.
jefequeso: Yup can confirm.
