Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake – soon on GOG!
Good game - Tale of Two Sons. I remember that Starbreeze also made Chronicles of Riddick Esacpe from Butcher Bay.
Which used to be on GOG not sure why they removed it.

The license used expired, so they couldn't keep selling it.

... are we running out of original IP? What is it with all the remakes and remasters these days... ? Some of them seem like really cheap nostalgia grabs on PC at least - there's some justification, I guess, in bringing these titles to the newest generation of consoles.

Especially in this case when the original UE3 game doesn't look all that bad to begin with, even in this day and age.

Yeah to be fair, Tale of Two Sons came out in 2013 and still looks pretty good to this day. Remaking games that are much older, like they did with System Shock games makes more sense because they could use a better engine and graphics. Those of course are from the 90s.

Speaking of remakes or remasters what's happening with Kingpin Reloaded?

Yeah, I don't really feel like this is necessary at all. I'm not even sure if more "realistic" graphics are welcome at all in a fairy-tale style game like this. Regardless, I really don't know why not make a sequel of some sort rather than a remake. Such a boring, uncreative approach. I just hope the original won't disappear or get bundled as an extra with the remake, Baldur's Gate style. As long as it's available without change, I guess it's not
Why?! oO ... didn't know, this was such a seller...

Exactly! Well, in the case of this game a sequel would be... interesting (no spoilers! :P).

The remake you didn't expected, and didn't knew you wanted.

Considering how the original game ends, and that it's a powerful closure, pretty much any kind of a sequel would be a disrespect to the original game, and frankly, an insult. Not that companies wouldn't do that because of their cash-grab and franchise-milking tactics, but I would rather see a remake of this game than a sequel.

But I agree that maybe it's too early for a remake in 2023-4.

The remake has local coop, whereas the original game was only single player (even though you could remap keys to two controllers, it was far from optimal). This alone justifies a remake. All their other games are made for two player coop.

GOG.com: Coming soon: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake
Ok, the new graphics are more realistic looking, and (allegedly) the co-op mode is now better.
That's nice, but honestly: I had no problem with the old (more "animation-like") looks, and I played through the original, together with my (then) little son, with the mode that was available to us.
My son's now in his 20s, and I doubt we'll ever replay this one.
So, I'm not sure whether these improvements warrant a re-purchase (for me).

But hey: the more good games GOG has on offer, the merrier.

Not sure what you mean by allegedly better, since there is now coop mode, whereas there was none before. The game was originally designed for one player.

That's why I said "some sort". They could keep the same basic idea and gameplay (with or without improvements/additions), and the story could be completely new and disconnected from the first game.
They have already done this two times. This is the same dev that made A Way Out and It Takes Two. It makes perfect sense to update their first game with coop, gameplay improvements and better gfx to make it available for new generations. The original is in no way flawless, even if it is a great game.
