What will you do with a drunken whaler early in the morning?

Nantucket is coming soon, DRM-free on GOG.com.
Whales are majestic beasts. Damn-near mythical, by some accounts. But Moby Dick - well, he's another story entirely. As you assume the role of a daring whaler, customizing your crew, charting a course, and trying to score big against the forces of nature or the hazards of seafaring, the pale demon will be waiting for you. Will you conquer the curse that consumed Cpt. Ahab? Or will you drown in it?
I think I voted for this on Steam Greenlight when that was still around. This looks like such a beautiful game. I hope it turns out to be a great and immersive strategy game. I love sea shanties too. Some of my favorite recordings are done by the Robert Shaw Chorale which I wholeheartedly recommend.

Another similarly themed game I bumped into at MODDB's site looks intriguing as well but seems to have a long way to go. It sounds like it'll be a different genre though being more of a 3D world and ship I think.

Anyhow Nantucket looks awesome and I love the time period and subject and I'm glad to see it coming to GOG. I voted for it on Steam so I'm assuming its still coming there as well? Anyhow I look forward to the release coming here soon!

Breja: I have to say, when I saw this picture I instantly imagined a very different game and was rather disappointed to see what it really is. I imagined something much more... impressive. Sailing the sea, fighting giant, hulking sea monsters. Not looking at a map on a table and doing managerial work :P

I mean I'm sure it's fine if someone likes this kind of strategy game, but I'll sit this one out.

pmcollectorboy: I hate whalers. I'm crashing my ship every chance I get. :D

Breja: How about a "play as whale" DLC? Smash tha whalers! Destroy the ships, leave the crews marooned on tiny islands and watch them go insane!
I'd play this. And it has happened IRL so it wouldn't be too over the top, almost to the letter, all except the island; they went insane in life boats.

The movie was quite good, dodgy CGI aside.

never saw it, though I read the book.
Not my cup of tea, but I must admit that it looks interesting, has nice inspirations and, well, it may be worth trying...
For DLC... hunting the Terrorsquid? :P
Wow... that was some... pretty bad lipsync... :P
You know, after watching the trailer, it looks like a totally different game than what I was imagining but exactly the kind of game I love to play(the kind where you fiddle with stats and inventory set to hand drawn depictions). Consider me intrigued.
Not going to lie... the title "Nantucket" is what drew me in. Had family who used to live there and it's one of the coolest places I've ever visited. I wonder if the devs ever visited?

Well anyway, the trailer was very entertaining. The game looks pretty neat too. I'm definitely giving this a try!
Looks cool, the vibe I got was FTL on water.

tinyE: I don't want to come off as PC here, and ultimately I have NO PROBLEM with GOG selling this, but a game about whaling? What's next, a baby seal hunting sim? :P
beat me to it, game mechanics look kinda fun but the whole subject matter is repulsive. skip

And virtually every other game on the planet, where you kill untold numbers of humans is *not* repulsive? It's a game.

That's why I said "virtually..."

Pffft, crybabies, I don't see any problem. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play slave tetris. /s
