I'm a casual fan of Metal Slug and like my share of turn-based tactical games. I'm wary of roguelikes though, but I made exceptions if there is something about the game loop that grabs my attention.

Yeah but SNK published the previous games. That was my question.

No, only some of them. SNK and Nazca started the series, but they have not been the only evelopers and publishers of the various installements. Ignition has published some, and off course Atlus as well.

I think that SNK still own the rights to the series, but that is just a matter of licensing.
