An ancient evil has returned to Baldur's Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out. The fate of Faerun lies in your hands. Alone, you may resist. But together, you can overcome.

Larian Studios have just announced that they are developing and publishing Baldur’s Gate III. Created in close collaboration with the Dungeons & Dragons team at Wizards of the Coast, Baldur’s Gate III is based off current D&D mechanics and spells and is the official new chapter in the legendary series.

Baldur’s Gate III will push the boundaries of the RPG genre and offer a rich narrative with unparalleled player freedom, high-stakes decisions, unique companion characters and memorable combat. It is Larian Studios’ biggest production ever and will be playable together with friends or as a single-player adventure.

Prepare for the return of a malevolent presence to Baldur's Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out, corrupting everything that remains in the Forgotten Realms.

Alone you may resist, but together you can overcome. Gather your party.

Baldur’s Gate III Early Access coming to GOG.COM on October 6th!
Baldur's Gate is over. :)

Crosmando: The worst thing about Early Access is that dumb people with dumb opinions (who literally never played any BG game before) are gonna give their dumb opinions to the devs, which always makes me nervous as to how the game will turn out.

i_hope_you_rot: Do you think the finished product will suffer from consolitis ?
It’s going to struggle with a lot of things. Most recent announcements were discussed:

I will keep an eye on it, may be good, but really did not like original sin 1 or 2, so not hopeful.
Maybe I'm weird but I would never play early access, I want to wait for the full experience. So as long as GOG gets it then, I'm good.

Hehe . Looks like a young version of Jeff Bridges.
"Glad to see my eyes, like, you know, uh, deceived me, maaan. Sometimes that happens because of, uh...the seventies. Anyway, I'm The Gale."

:)
Looking forward to this game.

tburger: Great news indeed. But I really should finish addons for BG1 and BG2 first
avatar
Tarhiel: Luckily, I managed to finish BG1: SoD last month (BG2 many years agi), so I am ready :)
Do you remember by any chance if I can play addons without importing party members from base games? In other words - can you create a new party at a exp level appropriate to the addons adventures? I've finsihed base games years ago - don't know if I still have saves somewhere.

Yes, you can start Siege of Dragonspear without playing BG1 :)

What I do not understand is, that although by the end of the SoD I was level 11, when I imported my save to BF2:EE, it nerfed my character to level 9 - why did they do additional adventures when they didn´t allow you to keep the experience is beyond me.
avatar
Tarhiel: So why don´t you join in too, so "the other" opinion would be heard as well?

There will be many who played some BG game before, here and on Steam as well, I wouldn´t be that worried about that aspect.

But I will wait for the full release of the game and not gonna buy it before - I have learned my lesson from Bloodlines 2.

Crosmando: I don't like to play games in incomplete state.
That I can understand :)

Ixamyakxim: I know it's just a cinematic trailer - but damn that was cool (and fucking creepy! Ithilids... *shudder*).

Can't wait - will sit out until full retail release for this one but wow can't believe it's right around the corner.
Good trailer, indeed!

I'd reduce it to:
Assassin's Creed
Excalibur
District 9
The Thing (sort of)
Alien
Looper
Futurama
I really like the fact, that, what seemed as a few minor encounters & secondary quests in Baldur's Gate 2 (the Sewers of Athkatla quest where you discover a bigger conspiracy than what it seemed + Underdark on how Illithid Societies subsists in daily affairs) & also within Throne of Bhaal's expansion (especially Watcher's Keep struggle between Githyankis & Illithids being somewhat explained); Now becomes the Major game Plot & Quest for the sequel.

I hope you'll get some easter eggs like what happened to Kruin the Githyanki Captain & crew, after he asks for the Silver Sword (vorpal two-handed sword & a Holy relic to them), and then you end up -somewhere else- [not trying to spoil BG2].Or the freed Giths on occasions like with the Planar Sphere, or post-events of Watcher's Keep.

morolf: This cannot be anything but disappointing imo. The story of the original Baldur's Gate games had a neat conclusion, there's no point in continuing it. On the other hand, if there's no connection to the story of BG1&2, it's just misleading marketing in service of a cynical cash grab.
They should have done something completely new instead of trying to capitalize on nostalgia for gaming classics of 20 years ago.
they did the same thing with their own brand (Divine Divinity came out in 2002) and Divinity Original Sin was a great game, so why not try other brands? ;)

That’s because SoD is nothing to do with baldurs Gate. Baldurs gate was a complete game that they tried to squeeze in some political statement in between to validate their blatant cash grab. I would recommend anyone who is a fan of baldurs gate to avoid like the plague. If you want more content use big world setup and play the whole game with a ton of mods.
Awesome news!

GOG.com: Larian Studios have just announced that they are developing and publishing Baldur’s Gate III.
Little correction though, Larian Studios have announced that very long ago, it's not recent at all, they first mentioned it for E3 2019.

It's based on D&D 5th edition, for information.

You're "correcting" a post from 1.25 years ago. This topic is from June 2019.

But – are you aware that it's GOG who necro'ed this post and thread by bringing it to the News section again? :) (#picrel, main page, now)
