One flew over Cthulhu's nest.

Asylum is coming soon DRM-free.

Within the Hanwell Mental Institute, walls continue upright, bricks meet neatly, floors are firm, and doors are sensibly shut.
But that's the only sensible thing to be found in this place of unrest, where memories of unspeakable horrors await the first-person adventurer who's come looking for the spiritual successor to Scratches and an homage to spookfests of old.
^^^^
Good things come to those who wait.
I'm always up for unspeakable horrors. The if you look at something disturbing for too long you go insane mechanic has wormed its way into my heart.

zeogold: Not to sound like a shill or anything (since I'm sorta in league with Agustin), but for what it's worth, if you want to keep up with the latest info on Asylum, the best place to do so is on Senscape's Discord server. Also, as a bonus incentive, if you talk enough there, you can get a free Scratches key. They also have a subcommunity that swarms about there who does some sorta "group play" thing of adventure games, if you're into that sorta gig. Also, as a way better bonus incentive, if you need somebody to talk to there so you can get the free Scratches key, I'm also there, so there's that to consi-

Hey! HEY! GET BACK HERE!

https://discord.gg/senscape
That's cool & all...but no one needs to install Discord nor go anywhere to "get a key".
It's 2019, man. These days anyone with half a brain can find (almost) ANYTHING that has ever existed. *wink wink*

There are better ways to convince people to join you for a nice chat, if you're too lonely and desperately looking for some company.

PS: Someone should talk to Pope Francis ASAP. Bram Cohen needs to be canonized. LOL
I loved Scratches. A classic "haunted house" scenario, but the developers are masters of suspense. There are only two jump scares in the game, but executed superbly. The first one comes after you've really become comfortable with a game feature, and in the second case you just know something is going to happen, but can't help yourself. It even had the most anxiety inducing yet harmless visit to the basement that I've seen in a game.
I am so glad, as a backer, this game is finally (!!!) coming out - honestly, Agustin, I thought it will turn into vaporware :)
You surprised us all with the new year backer demo and it´s really nice the game is gonna be released so soon after :)

Definitely wanna my GOG key! :D

PS: Yes, please, bring Serena here as well.

You do realise you don't have to install Discord, don't you? I can even login on my work laptop and that's well locked down security-wise!

And why would you risk going to a dodgy site for a copy of a game that could be full of any kind of nasty stuff (the site and the game!) when you can get a legit code straight from the developer? Sure, you need Steam to install it, but once it's on your computer, you don't need Steam to run it.

Yeah, I have my own Discord server. So IK how it works. LOL
Hence the "...nor go anywhere..." part. The point is you don't "have" to USE Discord to get an ancient dead game.

That being said...

First, they're not just easily giving the keys away (as in "hello, may I have a key, please?" "Sure! Here you go, buddy!"), as they should IMHO, since the game IS LONG DEAD. Nucleosys is no more and Mr. Cordes here will not see any profit anymore. At this point, anyone interested in the game is actually doing the new company (Senscape) a huge favor, by checking their early (non-profit) work, and possibly generating genuine interest in their new (for profit) work.
This should be as easy as "Gimme!" "Here's the key". Instead they're forcing anyone curious enough to jump through hoops to get a key. Sure, they're not asking a huge lot...but if I'm only mildly interested in the game I shouldn't have to do ANYTHING to get a key IMO, since again...I'm doing them a favor. So that's that.

Second, that whole "dodgy site" argument is only valid if you're a noob, clueless about anything other than how to watch a YT vid. If you know what you're doing (or you know someone that knows) there are LOTS of reliable and completely trustworthy places out there. So no...there's no need to go to any "dodgy" sites. We're not talking about a snuff film or classified government documents here, man. LMAO

And third...I'm not going to install that crapware that Steam calls client just to download a 13 YEARS old (dead) game. The game is (basically) Abandonware at this point, so it should be treated as such IMHO. The fact that they still have keys for it is an anomaly.
If I can get a game while staying well away of Valve and their crap I'm going to embrace the chance like there's no tomorrow. That's why we're talking through GOG's forums. ;)

PS: FYI I'm NOT endorsing doing anything illegal. I'm just saying "alternatives" exist to that whole "come join our Discord server and "work" for a Steam key" offer we keep hearing about. I have the game. So I don't need to do anything. But if anyone is interested in trying it out and has a problem with having to go and "be active" in a server "just because" and (like me) has a mortal allergy to Steam...they can still check the game out. Just sayin'.

Orpheus-GOG: "Why should people bother to find legal copies of old games here on this forum which sells copies of old games? I'm doing the company a favor if they give me things for free, and I shouldn't have to put in minimal effort, either!"
So...basically you're salty that you can't find a GOG copy of Scratches. That's really all you're saying here.
Ok.

tinyE: Is that supposed to be scary?

That is EXACTLY what my high school cafeteria looked like!

Of course, that was 25 years ago. Probably doesn't look that nice now.
I've actually worked in factories that were scarier looking than this game. Especially that one plant built in 1906...

However, it's always good to see new DRM-free stuff being released, so I might probably pick this up on sale and check it out.

All old buildings in the States look like that. :P
I've worked in them, I've lived in them. I think we all have.

zeogold: People need to join my lil' Discord group because I'm so lonely that I feel the need to force them to come and play with me before I can give them a DRM-filled copy of a dead game that NO ONE has any legal rights to keep distributing anymore. C'mon, you guys! Be my friends, pretty please? Plus you don't need to join our Community because you love so much these games that you feel the need to get involved. You need to do it because otherwise we will find ways to force you into it. You know, like all cool groups do all the time.
So...you're saying that the only legit way to do things is your way. And anybody saying otherwise is dead wrong? And that the best way to "win" an argument is to just twist other people's words?

Got it, pal. Crystal clear.

We can still just play Counter-strike and forget everything. We can use your phone to make a hotspot.

Orpheus-GOG: So...you're saying that the only legit way to do things is your way.
When the "legit way" is also the legal way set up by the developer himself as the proper method, yes, that's usually how it works.

Agustin: We're vehemently opposed to any form of DRM, so no worries about that. Preservation of software is way more important than losing a bunch of copies to piracy.

As for availability, no idea yet. It may be a limited run, so most likely it will be distributed through our site. We'll be taking preorders when the time comes, though.
Please, in the graphics menu add an option to turn off chromatic aberration or any type of blur on the edges of the screen during normal gameplay. People are getting bigger and better monitors to make games look nicer, but now developers add all these post processing effects which make games look worse and can cause eye strain and headaches.

Absolute agree, any and all such effects should be optional for players, especially for PC games.
Also, if your game supports FOV, there should be a slider for it.
