Prepare to return to Derceto Manor – Alone in the Dark, a reimagination of the classic survival horror game with the same titles is coming soon to GOG.

This love letter to the ground-breaking original will let you experience a haunting story through the eyes of two protagonists. You’ll play as either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood and explore your environments, fight monsters, solve puzzles and uncover the truth.

When psychological horror meets Southern Gothic, you already know this is going to be an amazing, atmospheric journey worthy of the game that started the whole genre.

Wishlist Alone in the Dark now so you won’t miss its release or any special offer!
Why would Nordic hand over their game to a foreign entity, while they have plenty of studios under their belt to remaster it for them? Are people forgetting Darksiders: Warmastered or Red Faction: Remarstered? Hell, they could go a step further and include the improvements from the PS3 version and give it a silly subtitle like Forever Alone Edition or something.

^^

My first impression was thinking it was a dick move, to use the actors face. But if he is involved with the project, it is good to have such a fine actor.

For context, there are games that use famous people imagery, but give no credit to the actors. Like Capcom doing this in several resident evil/biohazard games.
Looking For Jeremy Trailer

"After receiving a mysterious letter, Emily and Private Investigator Edward are arriving at the Derceto Manor to uncover unexplainable happenings and to find Jeremy! Who can you trust, what will you believe, and what will you do next?

Alone in the Dark is coming to PC January 16"
Welcome to Derceto

"As you explore Derceto, you will come across peculiar residents and strange occurrences that will challenge your core beliefs. Are you prepared to uncover the uneasy truth at the heart of the manor?"

This video is not a good advertisement for the game, considering the stutter and low frame rate.

For some reason I have little hope for this remake. If it turn out good then all the better for me

I've played the demo, and it was underwhelming.

There are numerous objects lying around in Grace's room, but nothing is animated. She can run into something, but it will not move or drop over. In another instance, a key is automatically placed into a lock, turned, and the door opens up. Character animation is also kept at a bare minimum. Grace always looks straight ahead; never does she lift or lower her head to look at an item that's right in front of her. The only time she is fully animated and is looking up at another character is during interactive cutscenes.

I noticed something similar in the trailer. It's not as noticeable because the camera doesn't face the character, but there is little head movement, and she is staring straight ahead while she approaches the other woman. In the following scene, she is standing some distance from the desk, and the picture appears on the screen while she is staring straight ahead. I would expect her to approach the desk, pick the picture up, and hold it in front of her instead.

In the demo, there is one jump scare, and it fails because Grace doesn't show any emotion. She doesn't look scared, she doesn't scream, or even laugh; she just stands there as if nothing ever happened.

If they don't change that in the final product, the game can have the best story; it can look amazing, which it does, but when they are taking shortcuts during production, it will ruin the whole thing. Lots of fully animated cutscenes can't save it, and there are a whole lot of them shown in the trailer. It has potential, and I will give the game a fair chance, but based on my impressions, I'm not really convinced that it's going to be a very good game.

I overlooked there being a demo for the game. I need to try it out if it's still up. Your review is giving me little hope that the game will be good. Thank you for it.

You're welcome. :-) The prologue is available (7.32 GB download and 16 GB on the SSD) and is approximately 10 minutes in length unless you are taking your time looking at all the details. I would say that, based on the impressions of the prologue, it's a better tech demo, and performance is very good with a stable 144 fps, as opposed to this new trailer, which is a clear plus. Most critique is deserved for the camera angle, which could be a little more centred or to the right.

Leaving all that aside, part of my critique is based on the fact that it's supposed to be a psychological horror game, and objects can be put to good effect. For instance, running along a bookcase and books start falling down, a ball comes rolling along the path, a doll starts moving, the toilet is spewing filth, a water pipe bursts - all such things. The way it is right now is just one jump scare and Grace's reaction to it, which would work if the camera would switch into a first-person perspective to be close when it happens, especially because there is no control over the character, so the camera can't be rotated.

It's the little things making a big difference and more opportunities to interact with the environment - turning the faucet on, spilling a toilet, or actually taking an item into the character's hands and holding it up to inspect it - can make a huge difference there. Maybe some of it is going to be possible in the final version, no?

Something that would have been useful to mention is that there's going to be a lowpoly mode, apparently.
I've just played the demo of this game (or "prologue") and so far it wasn't bad. But I really hope they will iron some bugs out. The menus are buggy (couldn't exit the options one time) and also the keybinding is weird. I mean, it's good to have changeable keybindings but sometimes the keys don't work. Instead you have to use the standard keys although it displays you the new ones in the game.

The game ran smooth with about 80 fps on my i7 6700, GTX 1080 on 1080p.

SargonAelther: I love THQ Nordic!

Now if only they managed to get Alone In The Dark (2008) on GOG too, that would be perfect.
Yes.

But what we really need also is the fixed-up Alone in the Dark: Inferno Edition from Playstation 3 ported over to PC and put on GOG.
