Prepare to return to Derceto Manor – Alone in the Dark, a reimagination of the classic survival horror game with the same titles is coming soon to GOG.

This love letter to the ground-breaking original will let you experience a haunting story through the eyes of two protagonists. You’ll play as either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood and explore your environments, fight monsters, solve puzzles and uncover the truth.

When psychological horror meets Southern Gothic, you already know this is going to be an amazing, atmospheric journey worthy of the game that started the whole genre.

Wishlist Alone in the Dark now so you won’t miss its release or any special offer!

SargonAelther: I love THQ Nordic!

Now if only they managed to get Alone In The Dark (2008) on GOG too, that would be perfect.
Ageed and agreed :)

I love that they put Wreckfest here too, but it took a bit too long...

Foxhack: If only. The Steam release is a gigantic mess, the retail one isn't that much better, they'd have to do a lot of work to get it to be DRM free.

I honestly love the game, jank as it is, and the soundtrack is incredible. But it might be too difficult to actually make it playable.

tfishell: I saw the first 40-ish minutes of gameplay on YouTube and, while already being aware of the poor reviews back in the day (aside from the well-received fire physics), I was surprised at how "AAA" it looked. It looked really big-budget.

I'd love to see it here but I assume it's way too buggy and GOG doesn't have the resources to create the required fixes. Apparently the controls are horrible and I don't see how GOG could fix those.
Well, SNEG could do it, they already proved they are able to do so with Chasm:The Rift and Severance remasters.

I would also say NightDive would be second best contender, but I think their hands will be full with System Shock + who knows what they will be allowed to do after being acquired by Atari... :/

Honestly, it was ridiculously buggy in 2008 and I assume it got worse on 2023 hardware.

I think you'd better off emulating the PS3 version (which has a bit more content and much more stable).
Will the Prologue be available here as well?
So glad is coming to GOG ! Already tried the Prologue and i love it

To add to this discussion, I got the 360 version because it was a $5 download back in 2012 and I said why not.

That game is a trash fire. It's an interesting trash fire, certainly on the better end of bad, but good it is not. I actually ended up doing all the evil roots or whatever because I thought it was the only way to get through the force field near the end. I burned them all, but the force field was still there and then I realized I had to molotov something on the other side. Dumb game making me do pointless stuff, but hey, at least I got that sweet .44 magnum pistol early and abused the fire bullet mechanic against the zombies.

I guess it's a good time if you want to hate-play something, but only for cheap.

Yup, I managed to play and beat a retail boxed version (non-GFWL) back on Windows XP, with some control issues (I had to play it with KB+M, and it took a while, but I figured things out.) I tried to install it again on Windows 10 through Steam and ran into an unfixable resolution bug; it was forcibly locked to 1152x648, and if I tried to change it in any way, the game would just freeze before loading the menu.

Both the retail box version and the Steam one had limited activations with Securom. They reset after a while, which was fine, but it still sucked.

Yes, it was pretty bad, the acting wasn't very good and the story... yeah. But the devs REALLY tried, and the music alone was enough to keep me hooked. And if you ever find out how to open the data archives... there's HOURS of unused music and sound clips in there. It's simply amazing.
Didn't know this was a thing, shots looked good until I realized this is going to be 3rd person only, that really is off putting for me, it would be a no brainer with the cinematographic camera angles like the original.

The problem with this game is that it was too ambitious. They got so caught up in cramming everything in that they neglected other aspects of the game that were much more important. Oddly enough, the in-car mechanics were more than a mess, and the developers had worked on car racing games before (have you heard of V-Rally?).

The prologue is available is in the other store, I hope it comes here too.
Excited to see this. I'm looking forward to the game and I always love to see such a quick announcement of a big title releasing here.

I too wish for the 2008 Alone in the Dark game here DRM-free, and thought that this topic was about it. Ah well. Not really interested in a newer one before we can get that here.

Maybe Zoom-Platform could fix it...didn't they fix other games thought to be "unfixable" and then GOG was able to release them too? My memory is fuzzy. I am not advertising, I just want a DRM-free version available whether it is here or on some other DRM-free storefront.

Yeah I won't derail too long with Z-P talk either, but Jordan has said (I believe publicly on the Discord) Embracer expects big payments up-front. Plus I have to wonder if a game like this would be much more complicated on a technical level than previous titles they've worked on.

Night Dive is another company that could do this theoretically, but they may not want to bother / be interested.

In any case I certainly hope the game shows up fixed and DRM-free somewhere.
Good examples of good games going bad, due to graphics being the primary focus. Any game dev should learn to focus on mechanics over graphics. But greed makes them have a lapse of sanity and then it falls apart.

All assuming they had a decent premise to begin with....oops, my mistake >;)
