Xenonauts 2 & Vampire the Masquerade 2 Bloodlines 4: How long have they been "coming soon"?

Well, it [Xenonauts 2] has been in development since 2015, was announced in 2016, and as of 2021 appears to be in development hell. As for VtM6:B8, the gong show that is the development of it has been very well documented.

So GOG, we need to have a talk. I'm going to sit you down and tell you to redefine what you consider as "Coming Soon". A vague "Q6 in 3001" is going to be better than nothing. It would at least give a target time for the public to go nudge the publishers with a kindly elbow.

I don't need promises of absolute dates, (as the release of CP2006 proved beyond a doubt); just a somewhen. If that cannot be determined to at least a quarter and year, or the date of release isn't even pending, then what are these titles doing other than taunting us or being sad reminders of a troubled development?

Given that there have been titles that have pulled the rug from beneath us, even within a week of release, seeing titles that are basically as reliable as vague starsigns in terms of determination of release does not speak to confidence as a customer.

If you preorder, you take your chances. They will not say when it will be ready, bannerlord has been 10years or something now and still no end in sight.

"Coming soon" is just fancy talk for "This game will be released here too so don't rush and buy it at the other store".

I'm assuming you mean Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2...

That game's on very shaky grounds. The developer was recently changed, after numerous layoffs at Hardsuit Labs (the original devs), and I doubt it will see the "light of day" any time soon.

What's your problem anyway?

The tag just means that, if released, these games will be available on GOG and you will be able to buy them here if you want. The scenario in which GOG breaks this promise and causes you damage is if you forgo preordering elsewhere and associated prorder bonuses and the game comes out but not on GOG.

Having "coming soon" on a game which never releases and never asks for your money does nothing. Taking money for a game stuck in development is questionable, but not very much if GOG will refund it at the drop of a hat (they will).

My problem is simply in the matter of their potential non-existence, as I outlined. Imagine ordering a hamburger or t-shirt that took +4 years to arrive.

Or being advertised a movie that'll be coming in 10+ years, if at all. Any semblance of hype will be long dead, as will any potential interest.

Casually side-eyes Avatar 2, and several failed "cinematic universes".

"Coming Soon" implies a sense of timeliness, and more importantly, a sense of occurrence. So why list games which status is unknown, at best?

No, it doesn't. Not on GOG.

For example, Wasteland 2 has a bonus called "Wasteland Avellone Novel", which has been "coming soon" since 2014.

In the context of games, the indication of "coming soon" simply means "we want to have the option of posting two news articles about this game". Nothing more.

In the context of bonuses, the indication of "coming soon" almost always means "not coming at all, ever".
