I know, right? GOG gets a lot of flak, but I think they try their best to actually stick to their principles.

I figure the Williams know how quickly the DRM gets undone, and just don't want a very reliable, easy to share DRM-free version around, instead. It sucks, but it's nice to know a GOG version is likely in a few months.

There's no reason to make it even easier for the pirates.

But it makes a difference, whether I get stolen from, despite my front door being locked with a chain and bolt, or whether I get stolen from, after I voluntarily renounced having a front door installed in the first place.

Even if the difference is only in perception. That perception counts.

Yeah. I do think the worries are unfounded, but I can at least understand the "not on launch" mentality. Heck, if everyone had that point of view, we'd get all the important games over here within a year of launch, which would be incredible compared to the reality of certain publishers never releasing DRM-free games.

I respect Ken Williams for everything he did for gaming industry, and especially adventure games, but seriously, Ken, what the f**k !?!?!?

So basically he wanted not only force all GOG users to use Galaxy, but add DRM layers to Galaxy which currently don't exist in it!

Meanwhile most other 70's text adventures including Zork 1-3 have all been released as freeware / made public domain...

Serious question - how well is it realistically going to translate to 3D (either "proper" 3D or "Myst-like")? I still have the DOS version (all 152KB of it) and the game was only around 1/2 to 1/3rd the length of Myst and much of that was the padding in having to type everything out (LOOK at x, EXAMINE x, TAKE x, ENTER building), etc, vs clicking on something onscreen. It'll be interesting to see how well an almost 50 year old but only 1hr length formerly free game sells / justifies the DRM due to a coat of paint.
