Hi,

it seems that game codes expire.
When do they expire and is this explained somewhere on the GOG page?

Gift codes one has bought do not expire. Promotional codes (like the games rewarded on this sale or given by developers) do expire, and the limit is different for each code. I have a promotional code that expires in 5 years, I have a promotional code that expires in 2 months. You can always go to the redeem page and check the code for expiration date.
the free games expire.* Bought gift codes do NOT expire.

* It is explained when you click on the green 'unlocked button' above the green bar.

...I was on about paying you in GOGbears so you can set up that ranch you've always talked about... I suppose money could do that too! O_______o
Thanks for the quick answer JMich. It was indeed a free additional code to a game I bought way back, but there was no expiration date mentioned when I got them (I still got the original email from gog) and the redeem page only tells me "code expired". Bad style, sorry to say that.

If you can prove that the email etc had no information regarding an expiration date, it may well be worth contacting support to see what they can do.

Thanks for the idea. I'll think about it. I just remembered having them and wanted to give them away, since I already have them.

hmmm... that might affect things - if you missed the email at the time (as many do with such things as they are never clear), - and of course not having any info on expiration dates - convincing support to add them to your account in such a case might not be difficult, but the reason expiration dates have been added / promo codes given instead of general "gift codes" is partially due to greymarket resellers - and thus getting them to revalidate a code for gifting purposes... I doubt it would be easy. Still, give them a shout - at the very least it may help to make things more obvious in the future.

Just gonna add that even if a game gets pulled from the catalog, a gift code for that game does not expire.

Really? So there is technically a chance I could still get Colin Mcray?

Technically, yes, so long as someone is holding on to a gift code lo all these years.

I verified it last week with the gift code for <unspecified gone game(s)> sitting in my order history.

Edit: No, you couldn't. Colin McRae, yes. ; )
