This is a very sad news. Codemasters to be bought by Electronic Arts.

I usually don't care much about the "industry" drama but watching one of the few studios that "cares" about good quality Linux ports of mainstream, high fidelity graphics games, sinking like this is kinda sad.

It just shows how hard is to stay alive in this very competitive market controlled by a few corps. One less successful game and goodbye independence, just like many others previously. Even somewhat successful games, both in sales and popularity may not be enough.

Goodbye good Rally games. Farewell good native Linux racing games.

"Welcome" Grid for Speed: Star Wars Kart.

Any good developer being bought by EA is a reason to grieve ... :-(
Get ready for pay-to-win F1 and GRID games for 5 years. After that, EA will shut the company down.
I don't buy EA games unless they are DRM-free and on GOG (which is very few).

So Codemasters is dead to me as of this news. That's a shame.

Well, no, the Linux versions are by Feral Interactive; I doubt Codemasters cares. Feral does very good porting work, but unfortunately refuses to allow any of their ports on GOG.
So between this and their previous bidder, Take Two; did Codemasters really stand a chance?
I see EEEA is playing the extend phase right now.

Yeah. Another stone in the graveyard (probably along with Bioware over the next 5-10 years too)...

Don't forget DICE. Respawn still makes great games though.

Never noticed before that there isn't any Feral ported games here, including Linux ports of games like XCom1/2. It's a shame indeed...

And yearly licensed Rallye games.
WRC Dirt, feel like a real world WRC driver, advancing your career buying faster cars, upgrades and crew through our *patent pending not lootboxes credit system, only cosmetics and totally optional by grinding 500h.
Funny thing is that may indeed relate to modern marketing... ahem real Racing like F1.(or pretty much any mainstream sport like football)

I loved Codemasters and still own CMR 1-5 + Dirt 1 and Grid 1 on discs (also have Grid 1 on GOG before the delisting).

However since they decided to keep embracing steam I stopped giving a damn, they can be bought by the devil for all I care.
As long as Overlord 1 & 2 stay on GOG's catalog, I don't care.
You cannot spell "steal" or "dead" without EA.
