Sigh, if you think that's offensive, then you probably shouldn't be on the internet. Because there are things online that would make you crap your pants.

And it's a completely legitimate complaint to make. It was a sale that punished people for going to sleep or having a job. Some of us have actual work ethic and don't screw around on the internet at work.

fronzelneekburm: Sheeeeeeeiiiiit... Publically shaming fellow forum users is all fun and games, but digging up some dead & buried thread from yesteryear does seem a bit petty.
I'm not really sure you can call that shaming. It just reveals that the GP probably doesn't have a very good work ethic or has such terrible insomnia that I'm willing to give him a pass. Otherwise considering it to be an offensive post is rather bizarre.

But, it's getting more and more common to see this sort of lack of thinking rewarded.

Is the IRC channel still active? How does that compare to the golden days of yore?
Ever since I came here.

ASSUMING anyone original is in there, not much different I suppose.

29 people in the room and nobody is saying anything. Same old, same old.

reaver894: slow downhill sloop since late 2010 accelerating in pace ever since,

I went form visiting everyday posting in about 70% of the chats going on to logging n 1-2 times a week and rarely posting at all.

The price of increasing popularity i guess.
Guilty as charged.
I'm pretty sure the term "classy" is going to change over time. One day, it might be a person wearing a three piece suit, the next, a pair of pants barely held up by their hind-cheeks.

What is classy is how one conducts themselves, regardless of how the rest of the community responds.

Not really. It used to be...

jamyskis: This forum has never really been "classy" in any sense of the word.

I suspect what you miss is the fact that (a) the community was much smaller before GOG introduced indies and modern titles, and was also much more manageable and (b) the community on the whole was a fair bit older (age was a prerequisite for the majority to appreciate the games that were here - younger fans of DOS games are rarer on the whole) until indie games and modern games arrived, which in turn has attracted a younger audience, a sizeable chunk of which makes its immaturity plainly obvious.

Also, as the problems of DRM manifest themselves in different ways to different people, DRM-free has become a much more mass-market force than before and is no longer simply a niche phenomenon limited to those with an understanding of the technical and practical problems of DRM. Whereas before this forum was largely made up of people who understood the problems of DRM and simply didn't want to be burned by these problems, now we have a lot of people who have actually been burned by the likes of Steam, UPlay and Origin and have only come here in the light of those experiences.

And the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia do help to expunge the memory of idiots like Roman5 with his procrastination and misogyny, GameRager with his extremely unpleasant elitism, and SimonG, who would quite regularly point out how Steam users were supposedly intellectually superior because he preferred Steam and because of his implied vocation in the legal industry (while frequently falling short of ever calling himself a lawyer).
Roman5 a mysoginist?

And define GameRager's elitism?

And thats why SimonG has not been here?
I'm tellin ya guys; it was Ricky. Just admit it.

I agree that there has been a change in the forums, but I think a lot of it can be measured by two things. One, and this has been mentioned before, the growth of GOG, particularly the release of newer games and The Witcher 3. The other item has been the trending negative sentiment of the forum users toward GOG and its lack of communication, and I think that can be greatly explained by the departure of TET (The Enigmatic T).

Previously, whenever controversy arose or big questions were asked, TET was there to set people straight. He wasn't a forum moderator, but he was the big voice in the forums to communicate with a official voice to the forumites. I swear, sometimes it seemed like he was here at all hours, answering questions and clarifying issues. There is no person like that anymore. Not truly. There are official GOG reps on the forums, but they don't have the same authority to speak and share and straighten that TET did. He really was a solidifying force in the community. And IMHO, his absence has had a detrimental effect on things.

So, what happened to TET? Has no one else taken the role of community liaison?

Indeed! Did TET quit?

Oh no! "Things", you say? Maybe I better cancel my internet before I encounter this stuff! Hedwards says I should not be on the internet, is that classy thing to tell someone?

So you have "actual" work ethic (not fake work ethic like most) and the people who liked the insomnia sale don't. Do you not realise you are insulting everyone who has no job? You are even insulting people who have a job an liked it. Not very classy. A real mystery why that post got downvoted!

I have no job and play good old games all day, so it is ok to insult me. But classy...probably not.

Oh I have a lack of thinking as well? Or are you talking about some specific lack? ("this" lack)

Anyway, I see you in the middle of flame wars bullying people all the time, so this thread must be some sort of hoax.
