It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

So what's up, classic downloading constantly presents me with a error 404 page. Is this just GOG's way of forcing us to us Galaxy? I'm on a limited internet connection, today I went to download a .9 Megabyte game using the link in my library and I get the 404 error. Start up Galaxy to download that way and Galaxy starts downloading a 90MB update. So, thanks GOG, I need to download 90MB just to download a 1MB game. That just makes perfect sense doesn't it?
GOG is not forcing anyone to use Galaxy, its just a glitch. Could even be a glitch on your side (I have no problems with browser downloading). I'd give your network and PC a full reboot before accusing GOG of shady practices.
Work fine for me, using Firefox and IExplorer. What browser are you using?
By "classic downloading" do you mean you are using the GOG downloader or are you downloading the installers yourself?

Also, what games have you tried that are giving you 404 errors? Perhaps one of us could confirm the links are bad.

I don't think GOG is attempting to force Galaxy on you. I suspect there is another answer here.
That totally sounds like PEBKAC.
I get an error when I try to download through my browser and support tells me they are working on that, but I still have the original downloader which works fine.

The only thing it ever screwed me over on was the DLC for Surgeon Sim which is only available through Galaxy and a browser download, but that is 1 DLC of 700 + great games I have here so I'm not about to have a cow over it.
My pizza got burnt in the oven, is GOG trying to force me to use Galaxy?

I dropped my ice cream cone, is GOG trying to force me to use Galaxy?

I went ahead and set my cat on fire, is GOG trying to force me to use Galaxy?

You mean the OP somehow screwed up clicking on the download link, and thus caused the 404 error himself? I don't even know how that would be possible.

Anyway, I have to repeatedly click away the TRY GOG GALAXY banner, and each time I look at a game in my library, there's a big blue TRY GOG GALAXY icon thrown at my face. GOG are rather agressive in promoting galaxy, I think. So I kinda get how the OP get the notion that the 404 was intended. (Not that I think it was.)

Yes. And while you're at it, it costs $10 for you to get it running.

Me too. Let's give GOG a request on that :)

Sorry your having issues. But no GOG is not trying to force anyone to use Galaxy.

Thankfully GOG has stated that the next update will likely be compressed downloading and/or delta patching. This will bring down the download/patch sizes significantly to what you find with the standalone installers. So I don't recommend anyone with a limited connection to use Galaxy until that is added as it waste to much bandwidth right now.

TinyE is right, as long as you're not trying to download newer additions the GOG downloader will work just fine, I installed it a few days ago and not one issue with it.

Get it here: https://www.gog.com/downloader

Downloads links should work once you install and log in.

I'm more partial to ginseng or sarsaparilla felines, but for you is this good enough?...

You sure about that? Can you show me an image of the GOG Downloader links for the game? They might have put the DLC under the "Mac" section.
