The first one "Pitch Black" is pretty good.
The other two are fun but REALLY confusing.

And yes they are somewhat gory although the 1st one less than the others. Lot's of people getting killed by monsters but it's done so fast "gore" doesn't really enter into it.

Licensed franchise, license ran out and now it can't be sold by anyone without a new agreement being negotiated. As such an agreement could cost more than selling the old game at this time would be expected to earn, it's unlikely to come back.

I guess the best bet would be if they were to make a second game and needed a license for that anyway.

Let's be real, who actually reads these tons of words in licence agreements and privacy policies?
My opinion is that they intentionnally write them boring to read and write more than necessary in order that people are too lazy to read it all and just click "Yes, I agree, please get rid of this endless text of me!".

Not gore, no.
In my opinion, Riddick is the best role in the career of Vin Diesel and The Chronicles of Riddick is a nice sci-fi saga.
I recommend to watch the 3 movies in order to see the whole story but I would say that it gets really interresting from the 2nd.
The story with the Necromongers and the bounty hunters is just fun and amazing, in my opinion.
I like the 3rd less.
And I am waiting for the 4th where Riddick will FINALLY discover his home planet and the next actions of the Necromongers will be revealed.

What is the point of limiting agreements in time?

I really loved this game! It felt as if you played in a comic-book, with cell-shaded graphics, the "BANG!", "TAP TAP tap tap TAP TAP", "AAAAAAaaaaaaah...", the small windows which show ennemies that you shoot falling from heights, and all that stuff which makes this game unique.
It is kinda like a Comix Zone FPS with a different design, setting ans story.
The loss of this game is really a big loss.
If they think that it is too old to sell well nowadays, then why don't they just release it abandonware instead of keeping it in a dusty box in a dark room where nobody ever goes?

Could be worse; at least you can still find it on eBay for prices that are not outrageous, and the last official patch removes the CD check so it's DRM-free too.

Runs fine on Wine on Linux, not sure if there are issues to expect in current versions of Windows.

Would probably not sell well enough to cover the costs of licensing the characters and the story, or enough to make it worth the while of not doing something more profitable instead. And without licensing they certainly can't sell or give away new copies of the game, it's got stuff in it that is not theirs.

No company also wants a reputation for getting cute with licensing if they hope to secure similar deals in the future, and especially not if there's no money in it for them.

Ah so they aren't just not allowed to sell anymore, they are also not allowed to share.
Licensing sucks! Our society is so full of petty laws to profit only a few persons!

Yeah, they're best ignored for the most part. Following them ultimately leads to RSI for what ends up being boring poetry in the end and going in circles. The WOPR rule is the winning move on that front. :)
