Evil stuff. Led one survivor to suicide, recently. Real shame, at that. Hero; his "reward" had been something like "mockery" back in the day and now, this...

They should never release TV series on tragic disasters and catastrophes... While tragic figures are still around. Showbizz operates like a criminal syndicate; stopping at nothing, in order to get results (watcher numbers raise up).

Oh, and accusing colleagues 50 years later, for one or two consentual harrassments that built carreers even, is so much social justice and praiseworthy... Hypocritic, parasitic cannibals, who feast on filth!
So, no World War II movies, until every last WWII vet is dead? Television and film can be a way for important historical events to be brought to the masses who wouldn't otherwise know about them (let's face it, not many people read history books anymore). I'm not saying that all are completely accurate though.

djoxyk: every Ukrainian feels pain because that's what Chornobyl gave us - pain and death.
Maybe it was like that in the past, but now Chernobyl is the national treasure of Ukraine.
A lot of computer games were made and will be made about Chernobyl, a lot of money is earned and will be earned in semi-legal tours to Chernobyl, lots of movies, books, etc, etc...

what else would you expect from Russian human being? tours to Chornobyl no longer prohibited, it's an open area for visits. is there any news when you rotten Russia will collapse and dissolve? that would fix almost all security issues world has with terrorists and hackers.
Living in Italy and having a sister who is undergoing (post-)cancer therapy, Chernobyl was one of the most terrifying series I have ever seen...

GameRager: First off, I get you are hurting from personal experience but that is no reason to slam a good thread just because of such.

No one is mocking anyone who died/was hurt or affected by such, and all are just talking about the tv series, which btw seems to be decently respectful of those who suffered or died as well.

Before getting upset or calling people/threads stupid or mallicious you should first see if anyone is acting in such a way first?
avatar
djoxyk: why it belongs to GAMING forums? this is biggest catastrophe in the history that involved radiation and happened (relatively) recently. this is not TV, this is real, you're talking about REAL thing that affected/ruined lives of millions of people in Eastern Europe and Baltics. you see only TV screen and actors (whom you discuss like it ever matters) and this is TV show for you while it is REAL for me and millions of other people. now I ask you again, why you have to discuss biggest catastrophe with most casualties on gaming forums where people supposed to have fun?
This is a general forum......everything non gaming related is allowed here and this is where such threads and posts are supposed to go. And as for why it's here(on gog)....well why not? People can avoid the topic if they want as it's clearly labelled.

Also MANY many bad things have happened in history.....should we never talk about them anywhere EVER because they might have negatively affected someone or a large group of people at some point? It's not like people are saying things like "russians or ukrainians suck& deserve what happened".....most here are just talking about the show and how good/bad it portrayed the events that happened.

DarthJDG: While I understand your pain, if merely seeing the word Chernobyl triggers this strong a reaction, you should find a way to address that issue. Venting here will probably not help.
avatar
djoxyk: there's no way to address this issue in efficient manner considering the way this event was dealt with (lies, denial and sacrificing people to death) and same state of responsibility from world leaders to their nations nowadays. Governments still don't mind getting own people killed or poisoned, they're still careless and aim for political/financial benefits instead of protecting own people. Nothing have changed since Chornobyl and no lessons learned. New Chornobyl can be just around the corner and that's definitely not something one can address by just saying "bah, whatever". One more such "incident" in Europe and you can write it off the world map in 50-100 years due to rapid decline in native population.

This is not just about the past, the story is still going because Chornobyl is just the first chapter for Europe. Russians try to hack into our power plants and disrupt its work (electricity and other infrastructure is also under attack). Since 2014 we've added additional military patrols to every dangerous object to prevent physical damage but one mistake from our cyber police or one traitor among military patrol and then you'll see part 2 of this TV show. It won't be pretty.
Maybe not, but one has to move on eventually for the good of themselves(mental health and etc) and society.

As for the second bit: Could you please not post anecdotes without evidence? Some of that is against board rules(accusing people/groups of things that are bad without proof) and a bit unwarranted imo.

vsr: This is bad.
In such scenario you should disconnect your power plants from internet.
Or even shut your atomic power plants down forever. Use coal - it is cheap and hackerproof.
Coal is bad for the planet and will run out eventually....nuclear(the latest plant designs) are much safer and near meltdown proof while producing little waste. We just don't build them due to massive amounts of red tape set in place by those against nuclear power.

Not to be really mean but you need to remove the chip from your shoulder against russia/people using the events that happened in any form.

You cannot believe this. The waste from nuclear power is deadly and and needs to be stored for thousands of years, all it takes is an earthquake or accident and the waste could contaminate the surrounding area, or like what could have happened in Chernobyl's case - make it's way to groundwater and then into rivers. Just look what happened at Fukushima. No nuclear reactor is meltdown proof. We should be looking toward natural gas and water/solar energy.

GameRager: Not to be really mean ...
oh really? I can see your friendly smile while you ask me to do it while they still kill us and keep trying to destroy our country.

gas and water also bad solutions long term. with water you can wash away couple of small countries (if you don't believe it, you can find how at WWII commies washed away part of Ukraine and south-west of Russia to prevent nazis from making progress).
solar would be the best option (if they can create new gen of batteries to store it)

Why this thread is still not locked?
I thought political discussions are not allowed anymore...

So says the guy who made a post basically insulting Ukranians.
I don't blame Ukrainians for not having any great love for Holy Mother Russia.

I agree with Gamerager, nuclear power is cool, very sad that the anti-atomic lobby has been so successful.
Chernobyl accident only happened because of a flawed Soviet design, and consequences of Chernobyl beyond the few dozen fatalities at the site itself are pretty controversial. Risk was also exaggerated, the claim that it could have made all of Europe uninhabitable is nonsense.
Nuclear power is great and necessary to prevent extreme climate change.

Yeah kid, when you find yourself INSIDE circles of actors and the showbiz, then you will have an objective opinion. But nobodies and broke chaps, rarely have the chance, to.

Plus, you go out of your way, to wrap your brains around something supposedly stupid. Which reminds me; "if something is stupid, then somebody else who lingers around it, is even more stupid".

Good luck in Canada!
