cdn.gog.com always worked for me, but GOG start to select
cdn-hw for all my new download connections.

Is there any way to use cdn.gog.com only?

I can't even ping cdn-hw.gog.com and tracert fails.

Having said that, there appears to be backbone issues here in the US this morning. Time Warner is showing a large problem along the south east US coast. I know at the office, we didn't have any internet and the restaurant I went to breakfast this morning, they couldn't even run a credit card.

Outage map: http://downdetector.com/status/spectrum/map/

The download server is with a CDN service called Highwinds Network Group and there's nothing on their Facebook or Twitter about any issues (It's all sales crud anyway) and I don;t see a public status page either. And I don't see any mention of uplinks so I can;t check anything.

It must really be only 2 guys running the place and nothing but empty office space:

Whoa. Internet is not as stable as I thought.
Hi
Could you download following files and tell me the speed?
http://cdn-api.gog.com/open/plik_1M
http://cdn-hw.gog.com/open/plik_1M

For me the cdn-api.gog.com downloaded it in 0.4s (2.37MB/s), cdn-hw.gog.com in 13s (80.4KB/s) and cdn.gog.com started promising but then throttled and the result was 24s (42.3KB/s).

The speed seems become normal for me since this morning (UTC+8).
Anyway it is my test now:
cdn-api 305KB/s in 3.9s
cdn-hw 231KB/s in 4.4s
cdn 167KB/s in 6.6s
Just for fun I gave it a try, too.

All three downloads were instant for me though so I can't really give you proper statistics.

@Mr.Grucha: Do you have bigger test files (around 100 to 200 MB)?

You need something like wget (or some download manager) to have proper statistics.

Hi
Bigger files

http://cdn-hw.gog.com/open/test_file_10GB.dat
http://cdn.gog.com/open/test_file_10GB.dat
http://cdn-api.gog.com/open/test_file_10GB.dat
test with ulimit -f 10240
cdn-hw 10.00M 300KB/s
cdn 10.00M 289KB/s
cdn-api 10.00M 277KB/s
Test Setup: Firefox 56.0.2 with DownThemAll Download Manager addon which can use multiple download threads for each file.

I didn't let the files download fully but rather made a screenshot of the statistics at exactly 3 minutes into the download and then stopped the download. I don't really need 30 GB of random test data. ;-) The screenshots are attached.

Result: cdn-hw and cdn are just fine. Pretty much full speed (line speed 150 mbps) from start to finish of the test. Small deviations are normal due to the nature of the internet.

cdn-api is a different story though. It looked like this server didn't allow multiple threads because only one download thread was working and it was capped at around 5-6 MB/s. However, at around 2:30 other threads also started downloading and then this server also reached my line speed. My first thought was that this was a random glitch and I retried cdn-api. But 30 seconds into the download there was still only one download thread running so I stopped the download. Investigating why this server stalls multiple download threads might be worthwhile.

cdn 10.00M 289KB/s
cdn-api 10.00M 277KB/s
These values are low, super low I would say.
Could you test your Internet connection using https://fast.com/ or http://beta.speedtest.net/ ?
For me these are even worse, the only one consistently good is the api one (also with ulimit -f 10240):
cdn-hw-10gb 2.1MB/s but started very slowly then picked up speed...
cdn 324KB/s
cdn-api 5.01MB/s
Speedtest 90Mb/s or about 11.2MB/s

I have slow network so I would not complain it. :-P
Some users reported that they just can not connect to cdn-hw.
Here's my results, for what it's worth:

1M download
-------------------
http://cdn-hw.gog.com/open/plik_1M ----> 2.08MB/s in 0.5s
http://cdn.gog.com/open/plik_1M ---------> 2.48MB/s in 0.4s
http://cdn-api.gog.com/open/plik_1M ----> 1.99MB/s in 0.5s

10GB download (ulimit -f 102400)
----------------------------------------------
http://cdn-hw.gog.com/open/test_file_10GB.dat ----> 10.1MB/s
http://cdn.gog.com/open/test_file_10GB.dat ---------> 7.63MB/s
http://cdn-api.gog.com/open/test_file_10GB.dat ----> 7.49MB/s

All of them started slower and were still seemingly increasing the DL speed when they reached the 100MB limit.

Can't complain about my workplace connection. :P
