Isn't the game about degraded society of computers with human parts? :p

amok: So instead of choosing gender (the option no longer exist) the player chose body types, and can mix up voice, face and body types if they wish.

This makes perfect sense in a cyberpunk world with body modifications and cyborgs, and fits with the literature.

LootHunter: Cool! Can't wait for installing rotors for my char and becoming attack helicopter.
If that's included in the game, and that's how you want to play it - sure, go ahead. Though I doubt flight will be included, will probably unbalance the game. However, I do expect some heavy weapons modifications, to be more of a walking tank.

edit - I am also trying to think about any Cyberpunk books / films / games where the characters have flight.... I can't think of any.... so while gender and identity fluidity is quite common in this setting, flight is not. why did you bring it up?

I was pretty hesitant after the thing with the demo and how off it felt, I was pretty ready to forget the game.
I'm a huge cyberpunk fan and loose gender and sexuality has been a very important part of it from the start so hearing that they listened to feedback and are making steps to see that part of it more fleshed out and carefully done actually secures my buy.
More character customization options isn't a bad thing you know.
If anyone feels offended about transgenderism, they shouldn't read or consume cyperbunk at all, considering it is often relatively prevalent subject matter among the people who can modify their bodies and appearances quite freely.

LootHunter: So, basically devs just call characters sex a "body type". I'm not sure that tey'll be able to sit on two chairs with this one.
Dark Souls does the same thing as I believe, a masculine/feminine slider, don't remember an outcry over that. OP sounds like he's overdosed on /pol/.

You know, this reminds me a bit about South Park Fractured But Whole. The main characters pronoun is mostly male, but at one point, you can actually alter your gender, which leads into some of the best jokes in the game when people start getting confused. Overall, they do some pretty solid jokes about sex and sexual orientation there.

lonewolfgk: there is ONLY 2 GENDERS.
avatar
Swedrami: If I'm not mistaken that's still the case - for example, when selecting the voice over you'll be able to choose between male or female voice over?
And during dialogue you'll be addressed accordingly via "he" or "she"? I highly doubt CDPR recorded all dialogue lines for a third, fourth or nth time.
It isn't the case in real life. You can get arrested in the UK for saying that in public.
You probably should wait with canceling your pre-order until tomorrow's stream of the new gameplay too.
Maybe they show off character creation as well and in some way you might still be able to explicitly determine or set male or female which apparently is a huge deal for people to be able to do so.

lonewolfgk:
You certainly understand that the cyberpunk genre is all about surgical and technological modification's effects on humanity, right? I mean from William Gibson on cyberpunk is transhumanism. Yeah, I'm sure you understand that. Because...

... you couldn't be screaming about adding something to the game that's an integral part of the genre, right? I mean... that would be... er... stupid

I don't even care about the game in question, but... really wish people would just wait and see what it is -- not what they assume it is.... and that people stop calling other people -- who aren't impacting your life -- names. The world's a big enough place for us all.

Ok, saw Ashlee edited that post. Let me say "thank you"

Are you sure about that? I'd love to see that law.

Here's the worlds smallest marimba. I'll play the one note it can play for you because it's literally just a plank of wood and a mallet.

You're complaining about a valid solution to something which I feel we should have gotten over as a society maybe 30 years ago.

If a man wants to wear a dress, be called Susan, and color his hair green, what am I to stop him? Biologically, he's still a guy but that won't stop himself. And why should anyone? There's no harm in it.

As others have mentioned, Cyberpunk really doesn't give a rat's bottom about gender or sexual norms, since the whole augment thing.

I'm sure you'd be really offended at Jazzpunk for having 0 gender choices because you're literally a Polyblank.
First time I've heard someone complain about extra customization options. Geez, it's not that hard to just create the character just how you want it, ffs. Nobody is going to cattle prod you for not making a gender dysmorphic pronounsexual.

This game has already outraged both the usual sides before it even got released. This is hilarious in some tragic and twisted way.
I like the change as it allows for more mix and matching.
I will be playing in English, so that doesn't really concern me, but I wonder how are they going to handle script in languages that have gendered verb forms (e.g. Polish).

Oh, really? Can you name a few "gender fluid" characters?

Btw, Armitage gets wings at the end of "Armitage III Polymatrix" anime.
