Hi,

I'm just wondering what happens to the cd key after reclaiming the game. I know that it won't be usable on GOG anymore, but will it still be usable to confirm the install when installing from the disk, or will the key just be totally unusable?
Thanks.

On.... what game?

Or do you mean getting a gog/steam key and redeeming it?
GOG games are DRM-free. You don't need a key for install, that's the beauty of it.

Unless you're talking about an actual CD key which is necessary for multiplayer on certain games. Those remain useable...

Stalker SoC, once I have reclaimed the cd key at https://gog.com/reclaim, can the key from the box still be used to install the game straight from the box?

The way he wrote it suggests its TW3.

Although I could easily be wrong, being so vague it could just be the multiplayer key like for NWN.

Yes, the actual cd key, but it can be reclaimed at gog.com/reclaim so that I dont have to buy it again.

edit: Ahhh.... let's try this again.

The CD key will still be needed should you want to install from the disc (as it's not going to be a GoG installer game), as the reclaim is sorta like GoG-Connect and is part of a promo supplied by the publisher(s).

However if you download the GoG downloader you won't need a key. If a key is supplied in GoG's download section that would be used for Mutiplayer but not required to install.

Hope that answers it...

From what I recall, yes. Be aware though that your GOG copy should still be using the same cd-key, so if you give your physical copy to someone else, you might find yourself getting a cd-key in use if attempting to multiplay.

My reply doesn't seem ot have sent, so i'll say again: Thanks, I was just curious. I don't think I'll bother though, because the game doesn't need disk in anyway.

Thanks, now it makes more sense. What is the gog downloader? I've got Galaxy, is it the same?

The downloader predates Galaxy. I prefer the downloader personally. Basically you click on a downloader link and it will download all the parts of the game for you and check the hashes, and you have the installer you can install or backup or burn or whatever (while Galaxy gives you a pre-unpacked copy).

If Galaxy gets all it's bugs worked out, I may give it a try, as long as it remains optional.

Actually, if you use GOG Galaxy client you can choose to download the backup installer, which actually just downloads the installer file and not the pre-unpacked game. This feature made the GOG downloader obsolete for me.

Simply go to your library in Galaxy, choose the game, click on the More button and use the "Backups & goodies" option. Here you can download the installer and the extras.

If it's 300Mb or less, i consider the browser an option. Over 300? I prefer the downloader.
