I used CDburnerXP for a while too, so that's another vote from me. It's perfectly serviceable.

Having just had to do a clean install of Windows 10 due to a fubar dual boot with Linux, I not only want to make some live bootable DVDs, but also I generally have need of something that will rip cds as well as perform other general tasks in the future.
Does anybody have any good suggestions?
I'm wary of all the "10 best... for Windows in 2021" type articles out there.
Used extensively in my past with no problems.

As to imgburn ive had quite a few issues with it in the past (though this was some years back). Is it still getting updated?
I have been using it successfully on win7 without problems.
Wine is also a possibility for linux.
If you are interested or wish to rule it out due to previous issues, just try it.
Don't expect it to deal with any protections though.

Thankfully it was a quick task once i was at that point - i had everything important backed up and only lost some game installs really, but it was a slog getting there.

Nope
Hibernation was one of the first things I turned off and has been checked to be off after every update I have allowed.

Unfortunately, something clearly WASN'T intact, the question is what wasn't. Would have been interesting to fiddle with the system, have a record of what you did. I screw around quite a bit with my system and like figuring these problems out... of course it's much easier when you have access to the actual hardware.

Gee, I haven't thought about burning CDs since uuuuh, about the time Nero Burning Rom was obsoleted.
Have a look see here.

Another vote for CDBurnerXP. Nice, slim program that works fine for me since XP-days.

Thanks everybody!
Ive marked Randalators post as the answer as Ashampoo fufilled most of my burning / ripping needs, but I have also downloaded a portable version of CDBurnerXP and will be making use of that as well.
If a blue / mod sees this then please lock the thread to prevent it becoming a spam-magnet in the future. Cheers!
