I wouldn't want to be that cat getting stung.
I like some cats. I like dogs. I've had cats I've never met rub against me purring and dogs I've never met act like I'm their new best friend. People who only know mostly stupid dogs must only know lazy dog owners and/or only bad stupid dog breeds. I trained a dog to always crap in the exact same corner area of the yard for when I was too busy to take it for a walk. You could try to train your or [url=https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+teach+your+cat+to+use+the+toilet]cat to use the toilet.

Below are some comments I've seen in dog/cat threads from catty anti-dog people (who must have had some traumatic bad experience with a dog) and what those conversations look like...

Cat people, "Cats have more neurons than dogs. Ergo, cats are smarter."
If you use that logic then that means you believe raccoons are far smarter than cats and a whale is smarter than humans.

Cat people, "My dog is scared of my cat, so the dog must be stupid."
Your dog is being nice to your cat maybe because it's trying to be friends (since dogs are pack animals & you have this cat in your pack) to a possibly anti-social cat or worse a psycho cat. Many stray dogs have no problems killing stray cats and it's not hard to train many dogs to hunt/kill cats or other animals if you want that.
Cat people, "No no no my ninja cat puts fear in the heart of all dogs. All dogs!"
*sigh*

You will never train your cat to get your beer out of the fridge and bring it to you . The "cat fetching a beer" video on YouTube has a cat taking 2 minutes just to knock a beer from an already open fridge onto the floor & then it walks away with the fridge door left open. You'll go thirsty waiting for that beer or you can train a dog to bring it to you in seconds.
Cat people, "that's because cats are smarter by not doing that."
*raise eyebrow*

Under federal guidelines only miniature horses and dogs have been approved to be service animals to help the disabled. There are no seeing-eye cats or police cats or search&rescue cats or military bomb-smelling cats or cancer-detecting cats or firemen cats... other than mostly mascots. Dogs save more lives.
Cat people, "that's because *all* cats are smarter and choose not to do those things. Hold on while I google-search all those to try to find a rare obscure exception to one of those as evidence that all cats could do all those things if they wanted. Sometimes a cat will save someone's life too!"
*rollyeyes*

Researchers have shown dogs can learn *hundreds* of words, may be capable of abstract thought, and possess a rudimentary ability to intuit what others are thinking, aka theory of mind once thought to be uniquely human.
Cat people, "Cats are so smart they don't waste their time with... words and all that other junk."

So anything cats do or don't do...
Cat people, "It's because cats are smarter. Tada!"
Riiiiiight.

Even Oxford University has found dogs are becoming smarter while cats are staying mostly the same.
Cat people, "That's because cats cannot become any smarter. They're all geniuses really. Let me tell you about my cats...."
We're dog men in a cat world. This forum provides further proof.

Yes, you should be ashamed for even considering such a premise. How dare you ma'am!!? ;)

I do realize this is a necro, but since it was already on the front page, I just couldn't resist.

MadalinStroe: I noticed that too.
I wonder if it was because of the recent debacle(s)...
Cats are murderous pink psychopaths. They hold me hostage and use my account to post bad jokes. Send help!
I love my dog
So says the Cat.

In contrast, Cat Stevens did not ever release "Cat's in the Cradle".
Heresy!

Cats can be jerks, full of themselves, denying of any wrong doing, demanding, insistant and persistant. As well as independent.

Cats also have a softer side, liking cuddles. And if they have a bad experience and you save them, they feel endebted to you.

Dogs are faithful companions, tagging along with you, defending you, playing with you, cuddling with you. Easier to train as well as confuse (with say magic tricks).

Between the two, it depends how much time you want to spend playing/walking them. If you have a lot of time to do so, get a dog. If you don't, get a cat.
Animals, and especially trained animals, can be great support and therapy for people in need.
I think both are the cutest thing ever, but I think cats are better suited to my hectic lifestyle as they are lower maintenance.

On that front, god help me if we ever have children. That would definitely redefine my definition of high maintenance.

I have no illusions about it. If think 95%+ of cats would either eat or maul their owners alive if they were mouse sized. And with that in mind, I simply don't understand those who have a desire to possess large felines (lions, tigers, etc). I think they have a death wish. I would not trust a feline this size with my life.

That being said, we are not mouse sized and thankfully, domestic cats tend to be smart enough to be well aware of how a violent confrontation with us would turn out for them (bless their little intellects) and with that order of things well established, I think they are some of the most adorable little psychos ever.

My dog definitely loves cats, but the fur always gives her digestive problems and she ends up throwing them back up. Then I have to clean up the mess. I'd prefer it if they'd just stay out of my yard.
