In joint efforts with the original creators, Capcom, we’re thrilled to announce the re-release of the original Resident Evil™, the groundbreaking series that heralded the golden age of the survival horror genre!

This iconic classic is now available with all its original content intact, featuring quality of life improvements and enhanced compatibility for modern systems. As part of GOG’s ongoing effort to protect and preserve classic games, Resident Evil is now available on the DRM-free GOG store!

Capcom's Resident Evil series has defined and revolutionized the survival horror genre, with the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil™ 2, and Resident Evil™ 3: Nemesis being standout titles that have captivated gamers worldwide. While Resident Evil set the stage, introducing players to the eerie Spencer Mansion and navigating them through terrifying encounters and intricate puzzles, its atmospheric tension and innovative gameplay mechanics laid the foundation for the series' success. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis successfully expanded the universe, delivering unforgettable experiences that deepened the franchise's lore and horror elements.

That’s not all, though – for the complete Resident Evil experience, we decided to invite someone special to tell us something more about the series. It’s Suzi Hunter, also known as TheSphereHunter! In an exclusive video, Suzi will introduce the history of the franchise and tell the story of its originals’ revival, while interviewing some of the most interesting figures that took part in the process – including GOG’s very own Technical Producer, Adam Ziółkowski, as well as Head of Business Development, Bartosz Kwietniewski. The video will go live soon, and you’ll be able to watch it HERE – so stay tuned!

That being said – Resident Evil is now live on GOG, DRM-free! You can also wishlist Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, or pre-purchase them alongside Resident Evil in a special Bundle – you wouldn’t want to miss this occasion!

Awesome! I hope this is the beginning of a loooong collaboration that will take us to their newest titles! :D
Great release. Hopefully we see it on Steam. This'd be perfect for the Steam Deck.
I think I came...

GOG has a developer credit on this so these may be either timed exclusive or fully exclusive,

However you can easily link it as a Non-Steam game or run it through Heroic or one of the many other options for Non Steam games on Steam Deck.

Great to hear that RE3 will be a "full" version, for a long time the most common (in retail, so it's an ancient history) available for PC was the budget release (Xplosiv and other cheap game series), which had by some bizzare reason completely cut off mercenaries mode.

But description on product's page clearly indicates, that this mode is available, so that's great.
anyone have an issue with it running very slowly? i tried messing around with different resolutions and refresh rates and it's still happening. I'm running windows 11 and my graphics drivers seem fine.

also the video in the news post is live.

Yeah, Heroic is a bit hit or miss. Sometimes it just decides it won't work lol. I'll work on it, at some point. Nice to see these games finally out.

I have been reading that this version has some performance issues.

Running in Linux and the speed feels fine, just having video issues but gameplay is nice and smooth.
I hope this means there is a chance we can finally get the PC version of Mega Man Legends.

Game itself, or intro?

Game is working fine on my side, although I have some ugly "artifacts" on screen (so some single lines on the 2D backgrounds). For intro I had impression that it was a bit "choppy", but not sure if it's not because it was like that in the original.

You are going the Gods’s work, GOG! Insane to see the original classics here, and in their uncensored forms! Now if we could get the Origins collection as well, we could have he entire OG Resident Evil experience, and it would be just perfect!
This is a big surprise considering what Capcom did to a 12 year old Resident Evil game 5 months ago lol.

Can we have Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil Revelations here please?
