I tried to use either Galaxy 1 or Galaxy 2, but just after I log in I receive:

Connection to Communication Service was lost and could not be restored! GOG Galaxy will now shutdown.

I don't use any unusual configuration or setup. Just a plain Macbook (Macos Mojave 10.14.6, Macbook Pro 2019).

Please help.

jjmelior: Connection to Communication Service was lost and could not be restored! GOG Galaxy will now shutdown.
Maybe
[MAC] Connection to Communication Service was lost...

This issue can be solved by clean reinstall, please follow instruction below to do that:

Please remove the GOG GALAXY Client app from the Applications directory.

Please also remove the contents of these directories:
/Users/Shared/GOG.COM/Galaxy
$HOME/Library/Application Support/GOG.COM/Galaxy/Configuration

You can open it using the "Go to Folder" command accessible with the Command+Shift+G key combination or selecting Go > Go to Folder from the Finder menu.

Now restart your Mac, download the current installer from:
https://www.gog.com/galaxy
and reinstall the GOG GALAXY Client.

Don't forget to import your games back after following above, instruction how to that can be found here.

A clean install? I've only had this for a week and I've hit this. More like a complete uninstall.
Clean reinstall?? I have just installed it on a Mac purchased this week. It cannot get any cleaner than this! Still I get the error when trying to run GoG Galaxy the FIRST time ever...

Never used any Apple products newer than some 90's Macintosh computers, so sorry if I say anything wrong.

Perhaps your firewall is blocking Galaxy? Or, since Galaxy requires administrator privileges in Windows at random times, maybe it also does but Mac is blocking it before you get notified?

Alternatively, since most games on GOG don't require a launcher, you can install your games through the installers from https://www.gog.com/account
And if you want to have a launcher-like experience, I remember reading something about Macintosh having an Android/Ubuntu-like launchpad, so maybe you could use that? Or maybe look for Mac alternatives to Playnite and Lutris too.

Also that was quite a necro, but hopefully the issue can be solved.

Does Galaxy even work on anything but Intel equipped Macs?

The client is NOT needed to play single player games.

Yes it works on an M1 Mac.

For those that run into this issue on 2022; like me -_-; this solution still works.
I deleted the "Galaxy" directories, did the reinstall, and problem solved! ^_^

It doesn't work. Despite removing whole GOG.COM directory structure and doing a clean reinstall, the communication problem persists.

What did work for me was to log out other users on the same machine which had gog galaxy also running. GOG can not handle multiples of itself running at the same time. This error report could be improved.

Another data point: neither the original "delete everything and re-install" nor the later "log out other users" solution works for me. This is with GOG Galaxy 2.0.61 (62) running on MacOS Ventura 13.2.1.

Any other suggestions would be much apreciated!

Okay, I was in the same boat - did all of the above steps and still no luck. Finally, I tracked down the "GOG Sp. z o.o" login background item:
sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.gog.galaxy.ClientService.plist

That seemed to do the trick. Rebooted, reinstalled GOG, and now everything works. It did re-install that same login background item, but maybe it was an updated version. Who knows?

Best of luck!

This is the only thing that worked for me.

In my case, I had disabled the background item between installation and first opening, because I have no desire for stupid background processes. I'm installing GOG Galaxy simply because the standalone macOS installer for Stories Untold is broken.

Curious - does the claim of "DRM-free" stand up when you can't install the game without installing GOG Galaxy, logging in, and allowing it free reign to run several background processes?

Thanks for the good advice. After deleting as described above and also /Library/LaunchAgents/com.gog.galaxy.commservice.plist, restart and reinstallation, everything seems to work now. Great, finally!
I have this exact issue on my M1 Macbook Pro. The above steps (including the removal of the plist) works. But after about 30 seconds of browsing for games in the galaxy app I start getting the same communication error again.

I did everything on Macbook Air M1 - the last version of Sonoma. It does not work at all. The problem prevails and it is impossible to use the GOG client. What a piece o cr*p :-)
