Has anyone else had a problem adding a friend because they are told the person they are trying to add does not exist? I tried email and username, but both times I was told they don't exist.

Try the user's profile page. Add the username at the end https://www.gog.com/u/ to get there. Click the Invite to friends button there.

If the user has disabled the profile page, try asking this person to add you as a friend. You can go to the chat page at https://www.gog.com/en/u/ (username goes here) /chat once again substituting the placeholder with the actual username.

If the user has disabled chat as well, then you seem to know this person's e-mail address, so make your request there. Alternatively, you can try entering <username goes here> site:gog.com into a search engine, and replying to one of this user's forum posts that turns up.

1. Make doubly sure you've entered the relevant bits exactly. (I'd hope you'd have done this before posting, but one never knows...)
2. If you're positive that you're looking for the name/address you think you are, and they're still un-findable, ask whomever you're trying to friend to check their GOG privacy settings. The check box under "Your visibility" needs to be checked, and should read "NOW PUBLIC - Others can find me via friend recommendations, email, or username". (They should be able to change it back to private later if they wish.)

Thank you for the response, but we have done all of those things. The problem is GOG is not recognizing the email address or the username. Yet I can go to his user profile.

Then it's most likely disabled.
If private messages won't work, ask him/her in a forum post to add you.

The visibility under privacy seems like the only thing left that could cause this so I will ask him to make sure he doesn't have that box checked. Thanks for the response.

They have already tried to add me, and private messages work.

Then I guess it's time to contact support and don't forget to mention that it also doesn't work the other way around.

I still have to make sure that his visibility setting is not preventing communication. After that it would have to be a matter of contacting support. Thanks for your responses.

I may be wrong, but I think that's one of those permanently broken things.
Oh, the irony. I'm sure it's not coincidence, but I just got a friend invite from someone I blocked previously. Is there anyway to block friend invites from a specific person? Apparently, the block I did before works only on chat.

I think I know who you're talking about. >.>

If you neither accept nor decline their friend request, they won't be able to invite you again.

I never really thought of that, but it seems strange to have a permanent pending friend invitation. Don't they have an option on Steam to permanently block someone from making friend requests? It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to implement. At a certain point repeated friend requests from the same person is a form of harassment.

UPDATE: Since the aforementioned person sending repeated and unwanted friend requests is at again, I guess I will take your advice and leave the request pending to prevent further requests. However, it seems ridiculous. Shouldn't I just be able to report this person? I'm quite sure they are doing it to other people.

Saint Genesius:
I agree, there should be an option to block friend invites.

You can write a private message to/start a conversation with a GOG rep and complain about that user's behavior. Last time there was a thread about that https://www.gog.com/forum/general/to_mayoryoda_stop_asking_me_for_a_friend_request_every_2_weeks it spawned some not very pleasant comments, but the root cause doesn't seem to have been addressed.

No. I double-checked with a support ticket. As mentioned above, you can only ignore a request to prevent more from the same user.
Well, I reported the constant invitations to GOG, but I'm not too hopeful.

Friend invite problem has been resolved. The person I was trying to add looked at their privacy settings and now it worked. Thanks to everyone for the help, especially HunchBluntley.
