It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

GR00T: Grab the DLer, then go to the game in your library. Choose 'More', then GOG 'Downloader links'. DL the Windows installer, English and yhe following patches:

Patch 3.00, English
Patch 3.01, English
Patch 3.02, English

Run the installer, then the patches. You should be fine after that.

Towely_ban: that answers my last post. thank you. what about extras and dlc? at what point do those go in?
That's the 'extras' link on the GOG Downloader page.

I think the PoE installer has the patches add in. You'll be able to see the patch level on the download page to check.

zer00o: try the downloader or direct link so we know if the problem is the download or the install

Towely_ban: ok I will. will have to be next week-ish likely. i only have one game with gog so i can't say its just this one as of now
If you install the game using the standalone installer, Galaxy can auto-detect it, and should then auto-update it to the latest version. (You can also select/deselect any DLC you want installed, I believe.)

If you weren't aware, Galaxy is still officially beta-stage software (an excuse Uplay doesn't have ;) ), and as such is still a work in (very slow) progress, and doesn't always work as intended. If you ever have an issue you suspect is related to the Galaxy client, and not the game itself, you might want to check/ask in the official GOG Galaxy Beta topic.

Sorry, I forgot about the expansions. If you have any DLC/bonus content, addit after the install, then add the White March files, then the patches.

Towely_ban: Its bad enough I have yet another digital platform to run on my machine now
If you don't mind me asking, why would you buy it here then? Why not just on Steam?
Yeah, that's one nice thing about gOg: while the client-like Galaxy is still in beta form, you still have the two other options. This is good for us who prefer to not use a client and would rather do things "the old-fashioned way". So you have three options, all mentioned earlier: Galaxy, the official (no longer supported but it has worked fine for everything I've thrown at it) Downloader, and plain old browser download.

There's a fourth method using, umm, gogrepo.py or something like that. I probably messed up the name.

Anyway, if one method is causing problems then you've got at least two more methods to try. The Downloader and browser download are a touch more hands-on but not at all difficult. The hardest part is figuring out where the files were saved to. : )

Good luck, and welcome to gOg.
Just download via your account in the browser.

GOG's site leaves a lot to be desired from a web designer standpoint (EG #1 - Under the "More" option for each game, every option there BUT Changelog is a separate link which work consistently. Changelog on the other hand is a wonky web-design mess which works initially and then is broken ever-after until the page is refreshed), BUT... Downloading the actual games does in fact work.
I continue to use the GOG downloader over Galaxy. I've had some issues with slow download performance via direct HTTP download, and don't really want the client features.

Games that are newer are always a bit different due to patches needed etc. Good luck and perhaps try the downloader if you haven't already, instead of Galaxy.

Definitely better than uPlay ;P

For simplicity, I'd rather say there are two ways:

1. Tell Galaxy client to download and install the game (and any patches) for you. This is the "Steam-like experience", but apparently is failing for the original poster for some reason.

2. Download the offline installers (and DLC installers and patches, if applicable), and install the game yourself with them.

There are various ways to download those offline installers:

- Galaxy (under "More", or was it "Extras"?), you can also download those aforementioned offline installer files, and then install them manually, without using the Galaxy client. You can later import the installed game to Galaxy, though.

- With your web browser (you can use any web browser downloader plug-ins too, if you wish)

- The legacy GOG Downloader client (not supported anymore, and frankly I don't suggest that to beginners, it is even more confusing to use than Galaxy... I mean, you need to log in BOTH through the client and your web browser, and then initiate the downloads with your web browser... plus I quite often ended up with failed downloads with it, even more so than with a mere web browser).

- A number of user-made tools, like gogrepo.py, lgogdownloader, the third script someone made whose name I don't remember... Quite often these are meant for specific tasks like downloading ALL your GOG game offline installers, not just for one game, but for all. For mass downloads. Maybe not the best solution just to download and install e.g. Pillars of Eternity.

Download files via browser, store on a backup HDD. Install files. Play. Clients are evil.

To the OP: there are a number of free games on this site that you can try and download to see if they work or not.
Here is a thread where I gave advice to another user who had a similar problem with PoE.

pimpmonkey2382.313: Correct, using the downloader will download all the files for the main game itself, then you can go to the download folder and install the game after download. Or can just go to your library on this site and direct download files with your browser 1 by 1.

Towely_ban: will I need to download each patch or just the latest? sorry this is confusing.
Since this doesn't seem to have been properly addressed, the main install files are already patched to 3.02, so there's no need to download any of the patches. The same applies to any of the expansions (the white march) - if you get the latest installers for each, they are already 3.02.

Note that PoE is one of the games for which Galaxy doesn't work very well. On my computer, Galaxy tries to DL the whole game (not just the patch) every time there is an update. Which, on my 250k/s connexion is... less than optimal. that's the reason I cut off auto-update for this game, and I DL the patches manually (using galaxy to DL the installers/patchs and then running them, just like I did with the old downloader)

Yeah, I saw someone (Luned? can't remember) in another thread commiserating with someone else who had some flavor of this same problem. I've never tried Galaxy, and have no interest in Pillars (i.e., don't have it), so I was just speaking in generalities.
