Especially Half-Life 1?

I just feel like I don't need to have a constant Steam connection to even play this.

Original retail copy was published by Sierra and didn't need steam [Half-Life 1 obviously]

You...didn't even look at that list. :) You don't need Steam for some of Valve's games, including Half-Life: Source and Half-Life 2 (+ episodes).

And Half Life Source recently runs poorly. Graphical Glitches because of its latest patch
Yes there is a way to do it you need something called a steam emulator to do it. Using a steam emulator for private use is okay but post it online and than it becomes piracy.
Yes, ironically, a lot of Valve games can run without Steam, also notably Portal is DRM Free.

Really? Posting an open source DLL is piracy? I'm not sure that's true.
Posting the game files would be piracy.

I don't think Nintendo is correct about that either. But they think looking at video of their games is piracy too so, they are extreme.

Calling a DLL an emulator seems way off. I don't know why it's labeled that way. It's not emulating anything but rather implementing an API. By that definition every plugin is an emulator.

Agreed, they think they own full ownership of anything involved with anything they do. In many ways they are worse than other companies.

No more than WINE is an emulator... (heh).

No, a DLL just simulates/replaces certain API calls that satisfies the program so it will work. Not an emulator at all.
