Experts will work through the night to assess the @ESA_EDM situation - next news will be tomorrow morning at 10:00
Oh dear. :-/ Well, at least the orbiter seems okay. It's the most important I guess (as it'll be used by next probes, and also will make nice high-res photos in the incoming years). But, yeah. Still hmpf.

Mars is hard, landing especially, and so far only NASA managed it, so wouldn't be surprised if it failed. And ESA is coming after pretty much a failure with Philae too. Over there.

If they can I would suggest a life-sized replica of the TARDIS. :o)

It would seem that it went splat, so the answer to the question in the topic title would be no. Still.

Still, this doesn't seem to impact the 2020 project much, I hear it's quite advanced already and not endangered by Schiaparelli's failure. Wishing them good luck with that, they certainly mustn't feel extremely encouraged right now.
Also, Philae's last moment localization is great unexpected news. Don't know how I missed this. I had stopped checking the rosetta blog for a long while, while I was away, and when I got back I only got the news of Rosetta's terminal kamikaze move. I didn't know there had been this, inbetween. It's great. It was really a little missing symbolic jigsaw piece that was nagging me.

I have no idea, but my country has a parliament full of men and women that I would just love to be shipped of to Mars.
