NuffCatnip: The art style is neat, but a 60€ game with microtransactions is a no-go for me.
avatar
omega64: Pretty sure it's 40. :P
Isn't it the special edition that's 60?
I dunno, could be only 40 (or 50), I watched a gameplay and didn't like the gameplay so I didn't do any research. :)

I tried the open beta.
It seemed like an above-average multiplayer game I'd enjoy playing sporadically. Unfortunately it's multiplayer-only with a ridiculous price tag and obnoxious micro-transactions on top.
If I ever need to scratch that multiplayer itch I can just play Paladins which is the essentially the same game but for free.

We tried to find players before but there was little interest around here.

I play with Detlik and his pals sometimes and we have fun but we are all on the European servers. :-/
But if you have good internet you can try it with us anyway maybe?

timppu: Is it like TF2? Does it have spies and engineers too? I'm actually thinking of trying out some other f2p multiplayer game,
It is not f2p.
It costs 40 Euro (or 40USD if you buy it from US Battle.net).

It has quite uniqe heroes. There are plain damage dealers, quick hard-to-hit characters, AOE grenade launcher guy, plain healers, healers that can also do damage but are squishy, various tanks (one ahs shield, one can heal himself, other can shield others, etc.), other hero who is basically melee character, snipers, 2 different turret builders, edgy dead guy who never got out of his emo phase and many more. There are even going to add more characters.

It's only full-priced game I bought in years and I can say I don't regret it at all.
And while yes, there are microtransactions and they totally suck because drop rates and whole system is unfair to players, it can also be just ignored as it is only about cosmetics and nothing else.

Edit: I guess it's 50? Idunno.
40 for basic edition, 60 for one with few extra skins and cosmetics for other blizzard games (so not worth at all) and something like 80 or 100 for retail Collectors Edition with physical goodies.

I like how people complain about an online multiplayer game, because it has no single player. Seriously, the single player in this kind of game won't work at all.

As for the microtransactions in this game, like i said previously, it's honest. All you buy are loot crates, which you also get one in each level up and inside it are only cosmetic items, you can also use the virtual money you get from em or from duplicates to buy one. Compared to TF2, you don't need to buy a key to open it.

EDIT: Also maps and heroes that are released are free.

Oh. In that case not interested. There are so many f2p online games around, like the aforementioned TeamFortress 2. Especially since I was thinking of introducing one or two friends to the same game I play (so we could play together), meaning they'd have to buy the game too. Nah, much easier to introduce them to e.g. TF2, I guess.

I admit I have sunk so much time for TF2 that _now_ I wouldn't feel bad for having used money on it, but paying up front for a multiplayer-only game just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe I hate all the other players and can't enjoy the game at all...

Shame, the situation that is goin on at TF2 is just plain terrible. Especially Valve's fucked up priorities. Sure, there's comp mode, but those balances they've introduced to it is just plain awful. It's not even a balance. Whereas Overwatch has only the hero stacking as a problem.

Which is why we don't like them. I think it's pretty simple. I also don't like spinach, because it tastes like spinach. Is it supposed to taste like spinach? Yes. Doesn't mean I can't dislike the taste.

Don't care. If I buy the game, I should get everything the game offers. Mictrotransactions of any sort have no place in buy to play games in my opinion.

I seriously don't understand the fanboy mentality that makes people defend having to pay extra for content existing at launch for a game they already paid for.
Battle.net...microtransactions....always online....Nope, still can't find a reason to buy this or Battleborn....Plus, i am more of a SP type of gamer and less of a MP gamer in our days...

I don't really understand the latest Team Fortress 2 update yet. I started playing that Casual (matchmaking) game. First I had to wait for several minutes (apparently it was gathering players?). I am pretty sure I had put some checkbox that I want to play only capture-the-flag type of maps, yet I was thrown into some of those maps where there is a locomotive on rails that the other team tries to move ahead and the other team tries to prevent, MEH!

And when I left that game, I was warned there is some penalty for leaving the game like not being allowed to join a new game for n hours or days or something... Aaargh! Too much thinking, I just want to play some damn CTF map with other people!

I tried the community maps but from there I can't find the servers where I used to play before, which had a perfect set of CTF maps I liked. The couple community servers I joined were apparently hosting only one map with no time limit (ie. people endlessly playing the same map, which means there are lots of people who just hang around and not even play), and I didn't like it either that there was no respawn delay at all. I felt the delay was a good penalty for dying in the game.

My interest for TF2 got lower due to this, the good news is that now I've been playing more of my GOG game backlog, like Descent 3.

*High Five*
Spinach is disgusting.

I for one am not defending it at all.
I find it to be the worst part of the game. I feel the way it is designed it is virtually impossible to unlock everything without paying. Maybe unless you literally play for thousands of hours.
I would still dislike it if it was designed better as I just don't like paying for small bits of game no matter how unimportant they are.

But it doesn't deter me from loving the game. It makes me sad when I look at it, but I don't even think about thinking about it when I am enjoying the gameplay.

I get how you feel. I almost never buy multiplayer games. I am not much of social gamer and don't like when game relies on some far away servers. Last multiplayer game was WoW and that was some time around Burning Crusade and I only stick for 1 month with it before leaving it forever.
I only bought Overwatch because the open-beta and gameplay videos and streams rubbed me incredibly well and I felt like I won't regret it and will spend a lot of time with it.

But I can fully understand why someone who didn't try the beta or it jsut didn't impress him as it did me, can be very reluctant to buy it.

Might be important to you:

Looks really fun but my computer couldn't run it, my Internet probably couldn't handle it, and it's a bit pricey.

Vitek: snip
Unfortunately my internet sucks so there's no way I could play with you. I was actually surprised I didn't get any lag in it, but I am playing on brazilian servers after all.

As for the microtransactions, I get it. They want to keep the game running for years, if it wasn't for the microtransactions they would just be bleeding money past launch doing balance, support, etc. The alternative is the CoD (or, *shivers* Evolve) route of selling map packs and characters.

Of course they could have always launched as f2p and kept the microtransactions instead of being full priced, so it still sucks. But I prefer to pay for cosmetic microtransactions and get characters and maps for free than the other way around.
That article summed up my experience quite well. Good thing that I am not alone feeling that way, and maybe Valve will do something about it.

It just feels they made playing the game quickly for some fun much more work, unfun.
