I bought what I'm fairly certain to be the original version of Call of Duty (the first game) yesterday and since haven't been able to get it to work. Now, the multiplayer I am able to start and run, but I wasn't going to use it anyway. The single player asks the usual allow make changes to hard drive when I try to start it and then after saying yes nothing happens. I downloaded and installed the v 1.51 patch from PCgamingwiki but it still makes no difference. I tried compatibility and running as administrator and nothing works, does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you try the Steam or the retail version?

I just installed a retail version of the first one (1.3) and it ran normally on my Windows 7 64-bit. Interestingly, it seems that launching the multiplayer doesn't require the CD to be on drive, while launching the single-player does require it, which leads me to believe that you may have received the update that prevents Safedisc/SecuROM games (Call of Duty uses Safedisc) from launching. In case you indeed have the retail version, I would urge you to follow the advice on this article.

The Steam version runs fine also.

Surprisingly the United Offensive expansion runs fine on my computer aswell after my previous experiance with it and it was practically broken in that I cannot even play game at all.

And the United Offensive campaign was AWESOME!!!

I have never actually played the expansion. I wonder if it was a driver problem.

Retail. Version 1.0. I have a Steam account but haven't used it in years and didn't like the service when I did.

I had the United Offensive demo. I liked it better than the base Call of Duty ones.
