Before you start to whine: NO, this is not another question or complain about buying GOG games on a physical disc. This is about buying good old games that aren't here on discs.

The games I have in mind is No One Lives Forever and Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. Are these runable on modern computers and therefor worth buying on disc? Or should I wait and hopefully hope that they will come to GOG one day? (I am aware of the license issue with NOLF).

Also a question in general, do you usually buy old games on discs?

I think NOLF runs just fine on Win7/8, although there is a special installer for 64-bit systems.

These games are, though on the No One Lives Forever front, if you get the original version and not the Game of the Year Edition you will have to use a custom installer like here:

Also gives some nice tidbits if you are running Windows 8 and above and want to get rid of the lag present in the game.

EDIT: Also to answer the disc question... yes I do, quite often, being a collector of sorts.

Is City of Lost Heaven the 1st Mafia because I just reinstalled the first Mafia on my Win7 64 and she runs great.

It's been a while since I installed either NOLF games but I would be shocked if they had problems.

It is. Apparently, "Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven" is the official English title, but every single release just called it "Mafia" on the box, disc, etc.

Just don't buy the mafia greenpepper version like i did.It 's a censored version and there are no uncensor patch for it i think.
This is why i wait if gog will ever have the game on sale here. Never gonna buy from greenpepper again.

GOG doesn't use magic to make old games playable.
In most cases, it just uses patches and emulators. If you still own a physical copy, you can do the same yourself.
I am a retrogaming collector, therefore i buy a LOT of old games in physical form.

Yeah I'm aware of this, GOG just makes it less of a hassle for us players to install and play these games.

NOLF runs on Windows 7 x64 and Mafia too. Most games that still have a certain amount of popularity like mods and stuff, you can bet there is a fix to make it work.
And yes, I occasionally still buy (mostly used) physical games but no games newer than 2007.

I think the latest patch allowed you to choose a difficulty for that mission.
