darthspudius: Down votes in 3... 2... 1...
You poor dear, how you must suffer :D
avatar
MajicMan: That is exactly what the vote was about. Self rule, self determination and sovereignty. You think people wouldn't vote for those things because they are small?
avatar
F4LL0UT: Nationalists (a minority) vote for these things. Average Joe cares about his own well-being.

Heck, the the demonstrations in Poland started the moment our government began to threaten democracy but the biggest ones happened over stricter abortion laws, stuff that directly affects the lives of people. And what keeps Average Joe content is a program that gives money to families with children.

avatar
MajicMan: The entire American Revolution War was fought for these ideals.
avatar
F4LL0UT: Technically the American Revolution was triggered by economic factors. It was primarily the taxes that pissed people off. But of course "AGAINST THE TAXES!" doesn't quite have an equally nice ring to it as "FOR OUR FREEDOM!". And go read some Thomas Hobbes or something to learn something about people's willingness to give up freedom in exchange for stuff.

F4LL0UT: Freeing Poland, LMFAO! Dude, Poland wasn't "freed", it was taken over by an equally devious regime as the Third Reich and oppressed and exploited for decades. By the same regime that took part in mass murder during the first days of the war. Go pick up a history book once in a while.
"Taxation without equal representation" is the quote you are looking for. They were being taxed without representation. That is part of self-governance and freedom, more than just one issue factored carried into the American Revolution. Read the USA Constitution, the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers and Common Sense and you will see that the entire formation of the nation revolved around freedom, liberty and sovereignty.

Fascism is left-wing politics.

National Socialist German Workers' Party - Nazi. Hitler and the Nazi's were left-wingers who hated Republicanism. It is always the left that attacks freedom of speech. As they continue to do so now.

Who blocks speech on Youtube, Twitter and college campuses (another Nazi legacy)? The left.

Who voted in Europe for idiotic fake "hate speech" laws? The left, Labour, Greens, Socialist, Liberals.

Who attacks the right to bear arms? The left.

Who attacks private property rights? The left.

Who attacks capitalism? The left.

Poland is a free nation. Somehow in the sentence you purposefully left out the order of what was written. Notice that the wall coming down and then freedom to Poland, Hungary, etc. I never said Poland was free after World War II. That is what you LIED about and tried to alter what was written.

When did the PiS threaten democracy? When an outgoing gov stacked the courts?

The freely-elected representatives passed new constitutional laws and corrected the court system. yeah, a real threat to democracy when elected representatives in the Legislative body, are the ones writing the laws.I really hate when legislatures legislate it is much better when 5 unelected, unaccountable, appointed people decide what is and is not law, and what freedoms people have and do not have, that is so much better.

Losers who were voted out stacked the court with leftist activist judges to run amok against a newly-elected government that won the elections overwhelmingly. So the outgoing gov had the authority to replace judges who were leaving their positions after the new gov took office? Awesome, maybe I can get President Trump to appoint the nex10 Supreme Court Justices from now until 2047. That way when somebody retires or passes away his choices are automatically slotted in no matter the President or Congress 30 years from now.

As for your use of term "Nationalists" it is not a bad term, no matter how much crying you do about it. It is also interesting you called them a minority when the majority voted for Brexit. The average Joe is who did vote for Brexit, the elites were against it, it was average Joe who voted for Brexit because it was in his best interest.

Tell me the democracy part again how the unelected, unaccountable EU and Brussels parasites have the right and authority to tell the sovereign nation of Poland and the free Polish people how they must, and will, take islamic terrorists
into their country no matter what the people say?

I just had a good laugh when I saw this news popping up in my news feed:
https://www.romandie.com/news/Zone-euro-le-chomage-au-plus-bas-depuis-plus-de-7-ans-en-fevrier/785257.rom

Title: Eurozone: Unemployment at its lowest since 7 years in February

Then when you read the article (copy/paste from the French Press Agency):

General rates for:
-Germany: 3,9%
-Malta: 4,1%
-Spain: 18%
-Greece: 23,1%

Youth unemployment rates:
-Greece: 45,2%
-Spain: 41.5%
-Italy: 35,2%
Germany: 6,6%

...
Yeah. Well, lowest in 7 years after 9 years of crisis doesn't mean very much.

I just looked at Spain as an example.

21% unemployment in 1985
16% unemployment in 1990
24% unemployment in 1994
9% unemployment in 2007
26% unemployment in 2012
18% unemployment in 2017

These are like the min/max points of the last 30 years and the average unemployment rate during these years was something in the 15% range. So unless they worked heavily in the inofficial economy, working prospect were almost always dire there...

Then explain:

1. What has the EU done for Spain since 1986 to resolve this in a long-term way and how effective was it at making a "balanced" EU?
EDIT: meaning, not in terms of just giving money away but with solutions like being willing to delocalize some German productions in Spain.

2. Why didn't your country offered jobs and accomodations to the young Greeks/Spanishs/Italians in the recent years to supply the German workforce in order to keep Germany GDP and demography afloat?

MajicMan: Fascism is left-wing politics.
Kindly do educate yourself before spewing any more of this ridiculous nonsense. This would be a good start on the topic:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism

MajicMan: it was average Joe who voted for Brexit because it was in his best interest.
Did he really? Does this "average Joe" have a degree in economics and political science required to understand the consequences of either choice? I highly doubt it.

MajicMan: unelected, unaccountable EU and Brussels
Once again, you are talking about things that you have zero understanding on. While we do appreciate your interest in the inner workings of the EU, I do suggest learning actual facts instead of relying on easily falsifiable far-right propaganda. If nothing else, it would make your posts smell less foul.

Again, you can start here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Commission
As the article is rather long, I will summarize. The (elected) state governments pick one representative to sit in the EC, and the EC then suggests a president, who is voted in by the (elected) European Parliament, and the parliament also has the power to remove him/her from office.

Contrary to your opinion, it really is not the Martians imposing their choice upon the poor EU citizens :D

Incidentally, as has already been written here, if you hate how the EU works, you do invariably hate the US as well - perhaps even without realizing it - because the EU of today is very similar to the US in its early days, and the problems being solved now are similar to the problems that the US was solving in early 19th century (distribution of money between states, representation, state vs federal authority, etc) - though obviously in rather different circumstances.

Oh, and make no mistake, I really do not expect that posting facts will change your mind on any of this, I'm mostly just posting in case that other reader(s) entertain the idea of your drivel being factual.

catpower1980: Then explain. ...
Sorry, cannot explain. Also don't want.

We don't know what would have happened if Spain would have been outside of the EU instead. Maybe it would have fared much better, maybe much worse. Nobody knows.

Probably even within the UK or within the US you'll find areas where average salary is much higher or lower. Economy is not even balanced within a country, so why should it be within countries? If you look at the EU wide unemployment you see that it follows long time trends going over years to decades. So my guess is, that the fundamental conditions are quite important.

Shadowstalker16: I still don't understand why this is such a big issue. Was it like the UK couldn't negotiate any EU mandates at all and it was forcing things on it, and is it like the UK can't negotiate trade with EU countries now?
To answer your questions:

1. Before the Brexit referendum, David Cameron had compiled a list of claims to be considered by the Council of the EU (this means the other countries). It was unanimously approved. Anybody heard about it during the campaign? This was in the line of the special treatment and exemptions that the UK had obtained for decades, to quell more or less veiled menaces of leaving (the UK check in the CAP comes to mind easily).

By the way, since the referendum was a YES, the concessions to Cameron's list were revoked. More accurately, they were to be implemented if the referendum was a NAY, which did not happen.

2. The UK can and certainly will continue to trade with the countries in the EU. Most of the UK imports and exports are to and from the EU nowadays. They have zero tariffs. Yes, zero.
To put it shortly: when the UK effectively leaves the EU, it losses access to the common market (zero tariffs), unless a special agreement is made. That is not to happen since the common market implies the three freedoms of movement: products, capital and people.

An alternative would be an agreement that included reduced tariffs.

The last, extreme, option is no agreement at all. That would mean tariffs within the World Trade Organization agreements. In this scenario, Tanzania would have better tariffs than the UK when trading with the EU.

There is plenty of material to read about the consequences and possible scenarios. An early one (july 2016) came from the house of studies for the British parliament. Recommended.

Edit: in movement (extra points).

Edit2: David (thanks Blakstar)).
