The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

So essentially I just redeem a CD Key from a Retail PC game? The only one I have of the GOG library is Star Wars Republic Commando.

Redeem its CD key and I get a GOG version?

Guys i found steam cd key for Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl. The game needs to be installed. Wehn you start the game, go to multiplayer and in the top right corner it will say serial or something like that.Hover over with the mouse and whoola. ''Goes downloading Stalker SoC form GOG''

I own this games already both retail and here on GOG, but...holy cow! You guys really are awesome, this is a fantastic move! :)

As of right now, you can only redeem what's listed on the redemption page. We hope to add many more titles to that page but it will take time and all that :)

Ahh, that reminds me the days when the game protection was only in form of typing serial key to enable installator to progress to actual installing your game. Good to know these keys still work.

I recommend most of users to get especially your S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky copy because both retail and Steam onles were initially locked behind TAGES DRM.

I understand that I was just giving an example with Republic Commando. Which is the only game I have retail that GOG also has in its library.

So you guys are doing what Blizzard offers with their classic games pre WOW.

Holy fuck, that's friggin' awesome!

I just tried it out with S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and it really works! Too bad I got the game on GOG.com already - dunno if it would be ethical to give the code to someone or not. Probably not.

Fantastic idea thanks guys. Going to redeem stalker when i get home. No more digging about looking for that game again now i just download it off gog. :)

bouncedk: I have CoP + SoC (a single key) but it wont give me both games ... Incomplete library then and I'd rather not have that.
Warband wont register either, says key is invalid.
Your attached image looks like it's a screenshot of Steam, not a box. That might be why the key doesn't work

All you need is an original game key from your boxed copy and you're good to go.

My shadow of Chernobyl Steam CD key doesn't work :(

I think i have the retail version somewhere but i must go scavenging in the attic to find it, i dont have time for that XD

Keys as in Install codes because if you need something off the actual box I'm screwed. XD

'Course if I still had my original Postal box it would be moot; I wouldn't be in here, I'd be out showing the box to people and relishing their worship of it.
