The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

Very interesting option!
But.. doesn't this just cause a loss for you?
Anyway, all my boxes are probably pre-2000, so I should have very few keys.
Are Steam keys redeemable this way?
My Clear Sky Steam key worked but mount and blade fire and sword's didn't and Shadow of Chernobyl doesn't have a key apparently.

Either way, this is a fantastic idea. Thanks a lot!

Wow, that's a wonderful move. I can only imagine the outcome if you had annouced this yesterday.

Lokuas: I'm guessing you mean Library. Well, I right-clicked the games looking for "View CD-Key" but none of them had it. Where did you find them?
EDIT: Oh, nevermind. I see what you mean now. Had to switch to Detail View.

amok: If there is a CD key, you can find it in the 'Links' section at the left
Thanks, I was looking for it and did not see that link.

Anyway, great initiative GOG.com !

Maybe the hope is that it will be used to attract people not yet in the GOG community to redeem a few games then stick around to buy. I could see value if publishers on redemption of a game a page came up with their other games "you might be interested in one of these" as a way of pushing sales perhaps.

Food for thought.
Wonderful move GOG, its that sort of thing that really sets you apart from other platforms.
I don't have a retail copy of any of the games available yet (and most of the few retail copies I still own are so old that they don't even have something like a CD key), but I have to say that this initiative is pretty awasome.

Well done, GOG!

ThePunishedSnake: Are Steam keys redeemable this way?
I very much doubt it and I'd suspect the database would be less accessible than say the Odd CD key database. Can't really see GOG getting a key database off steam (their direct competitor) or a publisher dealing with steam which might be arms length from the total list of steam keys.
Very nice move, GOG! I hope some day "Blackguards" will be added - then I could finally buy the DLC for my retail version for a reasonable price ... :)

Check your PM :)
Too bad that the Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword key from Steam doesn't work. GameSpy key format unfortunately.
Thank you very much for this great giveaway!
Just redeemed my Stalker games, that was unexpected..
The very first one bought at release, beautifilul Collector's Radiation Edition. Still on my hdd, forth or fifth in a row now : )
Wow, that's fantastic!
I hope more games will be available in this way :)
Maybe one day you could redeem all your Steam library and remove that bloody thing for the computer.
Ah, man can dream.
Wow, that's an amazing offer. Although it's limited to a few titles right now, the concept itself is a dream come true.

I might have had one of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games on CD at one point, but I probably won't find it. I see I have Call of Pripyat on Steam, but not sure I can find the key.
