The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

A little bit of resurrecting the thread: any news on adding new games to Reclaim program? I'm asking due to GOG Connect premiere - it states that more titles will come. 'More titles coming soon' - states Reclaim as well.

Anyway, 14 months have passed since launch of Reclaim and no new titles have showed up, any news on that? :-)

That's because they introduced GoG Connect.
Look mommy, a necromancer... *runs away to assemble an angry mob of clerics, paladins and priests*

True, But the CD Key reclaim system can only work if
1) the publisher wants to sell via GoG
and
2) The publisher still has the database of created keys or the key validation algorithm
and
3) The publisher is happy for the Physical Media license to include a GoG digital licence.

Given Steam Keys replaced propriety CD Key about 10 years ago, the chances of a company have easy access to their old CD Kay system is very low.
Unfortunately, Clear Sky didn't work for me. The other two Stalker games worked just fine.
What key do I have to put in? I have all of the STALKER games..
The CD key found on your manual/disc (sorry, am not at home to check where it was found). It worked just fine for my copy of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

I'm very curious too. It's now June 2019 and I only see 5 games and 2 expansions available for reclaim. I have hundreds of games and If I have to repurchase these for $10-$15, in some cases $3-$6, it would be very expensive. I believe the idea was “all your games and friends in one place” but so far I just see one more game library service, no different than Steam, Origin, UPlay, etc.

Different in that every offering here is DRM-Free. They're not going to give you a library full of games for free just because you supported their competition for all this time.

Point being, feature release 2015 then to have no added content 4 years later. DRM or not, not a big deal if one paid for the game you can play it. Yes, there could be issues if the DRM holder goes out of business but likely someone else would buy them out.

There could be a number of pay structures in place to handle something like that with the game developers as opposed to their competitors, as you pointed out. Could have a low reclaim fee, say $.99 per game or an annual amount allowing you to reclaim many games, up to xx perhaps. Ideas are many and probably should have been vetted prior to releasing this as a feature of GOG to ensure it was even feasible.

Problem is, publishers have to agree to it. And, as can be surmised by the lack of games available to reclaim, it would appear the vast majority of publishers aren't willing to give away a free copy to people that have bought elsewhere. They probably view it as lost revenue.
