The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
<span class="bold">Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:</span>

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

No thank you.
But thanks for the offer. Don't need it here that badly for now.
I only had SoC and CoD via steam, yet tried the codes provided from my steam install and it wouldn't take....

Bahhh, no matter, I bought the trilogy anyways, now I'm able to delete yet more steam dependent games from my library! Yeah, I suppose I've paid more for the repurchase, but not only am I more than happy to support GOG over steam, but I now have the power to DL my games from any public wifi connection which is well worth the extra that I already paid, especially since I wasn't able to play my steam version of SoC for three FUCKIN' years due to a bad install before I lost my internet connection!

I hope they add Assassin's Creed to this. I love that game and would love it more without DRM. Just can't afford to buy it again.
So I just had STALKER CoP disappear from my shelf (I've contacted support, but I doubt they work weekends). Has anyone else experienced this, or am I just a really special case? :-/

I don't know what your financial situation is (personally I don't spend more than $4 on a game b/c of my student loans), but the game is $5 now on sale: http://www.gog.com/promo/weekend_promo_ubiverse_100415
This is pretty awesome. I really look forward to seeing what games become available for this.

One thing that occurred to me is, would there ever be a way to identify older games from a time before activation keys became common? Perhaps using the UPC bar-code or serial number?
I realize it's probably far fetched, but would be a really great addition to this, as it would allow the addition much older games.
Just a "wishful thinking" thought, but I know it's likely a pipe dream.

help my cd-key says code invalid, I have the game on my steam library (STALKER clear sky)

LeoNiDos: Prince of Persia 3
That would be nice, but I don't think this is going to happen. The StarForce key printed on the disc is not a personal but a regional key, which means that all copies from one region (e.g. EU) contain the same key. Also, the keys have been leaked to the net since the game came out. So in case PoP3 would be available to reclaim based on those keys it would be easy to get a free copy of the game.

UPC-codes are easy to find on the internet. Google for "a game + UPC code" and you will find it. Or take MobyGames (a games database), which has covers for a lot of games, including scans of the keepcase/box with UPC-code.

If GOG were to do such a thing, then anyone would be able to obtain free copies of such games.

Similar boat for me. I'm in College, and I have spent all my earnings on it. Can't even afford 5 dollars.

Yeah, after thinking about it a while after I posted, I realized this problem. That's unfortunate, because I have a bunch of old games on CD/DVD that takes a lot of hassle and headache to get running on Windows 7/8 platforms.
Why can't we redeem Eador on GOG? Whyyyyyyyyyyy?

I doubt it. Bear in mind that the retail version doesn't have a key that can be redeemed anywhere.

Really? I thought it could be redeemed on Uplay or something. Though now that I think of it, if it is that way, Ubisoft may not be willing to give their CD-key database if it means losing potential Uplay members.

Oh well, I'm loving S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl DRM-free at least.
