The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
<span class="bold">Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:</span>

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

Kristian: Them preventing you from selling something you physically hold in YOUR hands without an agreement to that effect is quite a different thing!

Rixasha: It's not really them preventing anything, at least not any more than they are preventing you from selling anything else from your gog account.

If these games were still sold in shops, do you think that it would be okay to buy a game from retail, reclaim it on gog, then return it to the shop for a refund? Because I don't.
This promotion actually makes sense to me. I have a hard copy of Freedom Force that I can't use because Microsoft has deemed it unimportant to make newer OSes compatible with older games and the company behind the original game doesn't care enough to make any sort of update to make it playable. Now, with this promotion, I will be able to take the key from my Freedom Force game and get a digital copy which is guaranteed to work on my Win 8.1 machine. So seems to me this is a very useful idea. And I have a feeling if most of these games were still sold in shops, there's a good chance they wouldn't be here on GOG (with a few exceptions as Witcher 3, Gabriel Knight 20th, Grim Fandango).

1st, cool avatar!
2nd, Freedom Force isn't available here. Have you heard something because I would love to swap out my copy.

Thank you. And no, I was just using Freedom Force as an example of a game I own with a key on it that I can't play anymore due to Win 8.1
This is very impressive! I have a few games in my shelf I wouldn't mind seeing popping up here (the original Space Rangers 2, though it's not on the selection as we speak. But who knows!).
Thanks GOG!

My copy of SoC redeemed without problems - retail version in the eXtra Klasyka budget line (Polish) .
Thanks gog for this.
Thanks redeemed my Stalker dvd code, but now its listed as the Russian version, my dvd is the english version

deonast: You didn't get charged. As others have noted it just shows you the current value of the game on the receipt / email, you aren't paying that (it is odd as a normal gift code redemption puts down $0 as the value but no matter). If you buy games here regularly you'd know there are more steps to the payment process, so you can't get billed by mistake.

Flaose: Due to a bug in the way they processed redemptions, I was charged $9.99 in store credit. It's possible that jimrad1 had a similar issue. I contacted support, its a known issue, and apparently the charge should be reversed soon.
Yes this, thank you for taking time to explain further. No reversed charges yet or response from customer service. GOG I really do like everything about you but this was needs to be addressed.

Check the drop down menu from your account :) You have access to the English and Russian versions of the game :)
Nice!
Was hoping something like this would happen when the service launched, nice to see it implemented. Often there's an internal debate to rebuy something or get something 'new' so this will help out ^.^
GoG is virtually murdering StarForce.
This. Is. Beautiful.
Redeemed STALKER 1 and Cleary Sky!
Note: this works with the GFWL marketplace version's CD code as well.

I haven't had charges reversed yet, either. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, though, so if you don't hear anything soon I'd recommend sending another (seperate) support request.

The allmighty DRM FREE sword has infinite power, its blade cuts trough the worst kind of evils, and brings happiness and joy, but its slow and bulky. StarForce has no chance, it crits it easy :D.
Wow! It's realy Great! I activate my Shadow of Chernobyl from DVD-key! xD
Please, add this games, i have keys from CD:
ArmA
ArmA 2
Worms 4 Mayhem
Xenus
Prince of Persia 3
Two Worlds
I be happy see it in my acount =) ty
