The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
<span class="bold">Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:</span>

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

This is a very nice thing to do, thanks GOG.

Is there a reason why there's no consistency with Steam keys? Some work and some don't, there doesn't seem to be any rule.

For me, only CoP worked. SoC and CS come up as invalid.

rejzor: How can I reclaim Steam versions of STALKERs ? If it's even possible...

fishbaits: In steam, click each Stalker game. To the right of steam client it`ll then show CDKEY. Click that, click copy to clipboard, then redeem it here.
For Shadow of Chernobyl, you`ll have to check your regedit for the key or play the game & check multi player, apparently the key is shown there too.

Job`s a good `un! ;)
I don't have the games installed currently, is that the reason why I don't see the CDKEY option?

Niteris: What if we already have the games both retail and GOG? Do we get gift codes?

I have Star Wars Republic Commando
The Witcher (it didn't come with a CD-key for some reason, despite being brand new and retail)
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga
Star Wars Battlefront
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat

and like a ton others.

JudasIscariot: Look in the manual. The US version had one on the other side of the cover page I know this because my US copy of The WItcher had this :) I am not sure how the EU version was handled, however :)
me too... i do know that in the times of win95 when i bought cd with s/n

- on the manual inside or at the back ( command and conquer games and red alert games usually at the back of the manual)

- sometimes even on the small manual (jewelcase sized manuals) and sometimes with a printed s/n or a sticker added by our dutch stores

- at the back of the jewel case sometimes in print (black) but usually stickerd with these nasty hard to remove glue

It should be somewhere near where I`ve marked in the image, depending on what steam skin used. Unless steam have decided since this brilliant GOG move, to hide it somewhere else.

Perhaps try r`click & properties if still can`t find it, key may show there. I can`t check as don`t have the steam version any more \o/

My steam key for Shadow of Chernobyl doesn't work. (I have Call of Pripyat at well but I guess it doesn't have a key). No big deal although I wonder why some work and others don't... Still a great idea and GOG feature for those that get it to work!

Edit - those were backwards...Call of Pripyat didn't work, other didn't seem to have a key
Edit 2 - tried the key in multiplayer of Shadow of Chernobyl.. not valid.

I will give the registry a try later, have to run now. Thanks for the tip INFERNO.COP

You need to grab your SoC key from the registry. Read the thread backwards to see how.
My results:

- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky = valid (retail)
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat = valid (Steam)
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl = didn't try (Steam)
I've also contacted the support team but they didn't understand what I said. The reply was about that the Steam version don't work but it's not like that, there's a lot of people who managed to get all the games using the Steam keys without problem.

Personally I've only managed to get Clear Sky, the others I get code is invalid, I won't buy the games again since I've already payed for them, this have to be fixed in some way. Support isn't helpful and doesn't know anything about how it works, don't contact them, you'll waste time.

Sorry If I sound pissed but there's also people here who have claimed the games with stolen serials found on the net not paying a cent for the games, most of us have bought legit copies and guess what? Doesn't work, pirates and thieves win again.

deja65: Guys, i think the GOG team hasnt added all the Stalker ck keys to their database as this is really annoying.
Yeah, according to the reply I got from the support, I can confirm this to be the case.

I'm sorry for that confusion. It look's like some keys for steam version of Stalker games had to be merged from retail copies before Stalker games developer went bankrupt. That's why you where able to reclaim those keys at GOG.

I'm afraid that for now I cannot help more. This is a known issue and in the future we would try to gather more key-packs from current owner of Stalker games.

Context: I own the Stalker trilogy on Steam as well, but were only able to reclaim Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat. Trying to activate Shadow of Chernobyl, I received "Code is invalid" message like everyone else.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat retail works! Thank you Gog!
I contacted Customer Support to ask about STALKER codes (Steam).

CS works, but not ShoC or CoP.
They asked me to send them the keys so they can verify them manually, and I did.

I hope this isn't some trick. :-)
I have faith in GOG.

Ask yourself: what would we gain from those keys? :) So no, it's not a trick :)
Well this is annoying - my retail copy of Shadow of Chernobyl doesn't have a cd-key.

During the installation process it asked me to put in a name and cd-key but there's no key that I can find. Hit next anyway and it proceeded to finish installing no problem. But the multiplayer menu doesn't have a cd-key and neither does the registry. My copy of SoC doesn't have a manual, is it posssible it was printed on that and I got shafted?

My copy of Call of Pripyat was fine, had a key on a sticker inside the case and activated here no problem.

At any rate I'd like to thank GOG for implementing this feature, hopefully more developers will get on board with this.
