The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
<span class="bold">Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:</span>

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

MauroR: I could reclaim Clear Sky but I can't reclaim CoP (invalid code message), I didn't tried with Shadow of Chernobyl since it hasn't any CD key, I was wondering do I have to install them all to get the key to reclaim?

Of course I'm talking about the Steam version.
The CD key for SoC is in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC\InstallCDKey

I've managed to register all three S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games from Steam on GOG. So pleased. :)

Oh, and I hadn't installed Clear Sky or Call of Pripyat as I hadn't yet gotten through them. Only got about half-way through Shadow of Chernobyl.

You'll have to install it to see the key on the multiplayer screen. Or with regedit, once it's installed (previous posts explain it clearly).

I have a Stalker Clear Sky bought at Gamersgate a few years ago with serial key and it doesn't work.

Might as well throw this in here just in case, but that's for 64 bit systems. If by some chance you're using a 32 bit one, just disregard the "Wow6432Node" since it won't be present. Also you will not only have to install the game but start it as well.
This is a fantastic feature, both in concept and (so far) in execution.

I'm delighted to now have STALKER on my GOG account (I own the US retail release from THQ, for those who wonder if it's supported). On the other hand, I now feel kind of stupid for having repurchased M&B:WB when it first showed up here (though I don't know if the Steam release is supported anyway).

Still, this is a great feature that perfectly highlights your consumer-friendly mindset. I hope that one day, every noteworthy game plagued at retail by Starforce or SecuRom will be available to reclaim from here.

Astounding!

Very nice move, GOG! :)
If I was gifted SoC here before, but I also own one in retail form, would your system make out of it a giftable code automatically?

Yes, but it won't show on your gifts list - http://www.gog.com/forum/general/breclaim_your_gamesb_drmfree_1ee9a/post120

Oh, that´s not a problem. Thanks :)
I have to admit that I had to check this wasn't some kind of cruel April Fool's prank (I've heard all about the site close-down "joke" from a few years ago so I know what kind of sick sense of humour lurks behind this website!) :-)

I can't take advantage of this feature yet as I don't own any of the retail games on offer - in fact, I've already replaced a great number of my older games with GOG version so the chances are high that I may never be able to benefit from it, but I don't care. This is an incredible step forward and the fact that it's not a one-off gesture but an ongoing feature deserves nothing but the highest of praise, so I'd just like to say a massive thank you and well done to GOG coming up with this. You continually find new ways to impress me and make me happy to be a customer.

But damn you GOG, stop emptying my bank account! :-)

Whoa, one of my wishes is becoming true! Didn't expect that! :D

I hope that I'll be able to redeem my Steam copies of Telltale Games titles and Dust: An Elysian Tail in the near future!
WOW. I just redeemed STALKER. This is awesome, GOG. Kudos to you.
For the curious...

My copy of STALKER: Call of Pripyat from the old Stardock Impulse days for Digital downloads worked + activated-up on GOG.
My retail boxed DVD copy of STALKER: Clear Sky activated up on GOG just fine.
My retail boxed DVD copy of STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl activated up on GOG just fine, also.

My Steam version's CD-Keys for Mount + Blade: Warband + With Fire & Sword did NOT activate on GOG.
I for one is full of Luv for you guys at GoG, what a totally awesome idea and very generous too. Thankyou very much indeed.
I have such a huge Disc library of games that wont work right sitting on my Games Shelves and I am now looking at them wondering what games will be given this loving treatment next. I soo miss many of my old games and I have replaced many through GoG when they are available but re-using my old keys is such an awesome idea.

To be vividly honest here. I would have been happy to pay $2 for each key reclaimed but getting this service for free has really put a smile on this old gamers face.
Thanks again guys
Wow, this is a really nice idea. How many games are they going to do this for? It's not really going to make much difference to me though. I only have retail versions of 2 games that are in GOGs catelog that I don't already have GOG versions of (Dues Ex & Space Colony). And I can't see them getting the Total War, TES, and Dragon Age games any time soon...not that I wouldn't just buy them anyway if they ended up here.
